You may have heard that 413 million Christians live in countries where religious freedom is severely violated, and that 220 million are directly exposed to persecution. But what do these figures actually mean?
6/7
Put another way, 220 million means that 1 in every 10 Christians worldwide is directly exposed to persecution.
That is an enormous number of people.
The other 9 in 10 must not forget their brothers and sisters in faith.

This November, join us in drawing attention to Christians persecuted for their faith.

On this day, in 2011, Pope Benedict raised ACN to the status of pontifical foundation, thereby consolidating the close collaboration between the organisation and the Holy See. ACN continues to serve the Church where it is most needed, always in communion with the See of Peter
The roots of #RedWeek are in Rio de Janeiro, October 2015, when the Brazilian office of ACN decided to illuminate the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue in red, to highlight the suffering of persecuted Christians in Iraq.
@ACN_UK took the idea further and created #RedWednesday to commemorate all persecuted Christians on a specific Wednesday in November, and this was later expanded to a whole week in many countries.
This year 130 cathedrals and a thousand churches and buildings across different continents will take part in Red Week and Red Wednesday.
