The GenAI economy has generated $110 billion in sales over the past 12 months. It is growing fast. On an annualized basis, the revenue run rate exceeds $175 billion.
These numbers took us several months to construct, and as far as we know, it’s the first bottom-up, deduplicated measure of consumer and enterprise AI spending across the full stack.
We are releasing this research today in our first The State of the AI Economy report.

AI is creating so much volatility right now, which you can see everywhere except in the volatility statistics.
What means this?
$MSFT: "We expect revenue from agents and infra of $80.1-80.7 billion dollars, or growth of 24 to 25%."

~1 in 70 americans with 100MM+ net worth will be anthropic staff. include openai employees and the labs will be like ~1 in 50 to even more lol
Who actually gets rich if Anthropic lists at $2 trillion?
The S-1 filed on Monday lets us answer from the filing itself.
The reported target is $1.5T to $2T, listing the week of November 16. The filing implies about 16.9B fully diluted shares. So $2T works out to roughly $118 a share.
The cap table at $2T:
- $199B for the 7 controlling co-founders, about 10%
- $28B for Ben Mann, if his stake matches theirs
- $100B for the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, 5%
- $331B in employee options and RSUs, about 17% , That pool covers about 5,300 employees, an average of $62M each.
- But when you joined matters enormously.
The S-1 shows how much equity was granted each year, and at what price. [
Headcount went from about 300 to 500 in late 2023, to 940 at end 2024, to 5,300 now.
Match the two, and here is roughly how many people made what at $2T:
- $110M to $400M each: ~300 to 500 people hired by 2023
- $200M to $300M each: ~440 to 640 hired in 2024
- $70M to $95M each: ~1,360 hired in 2025
- $10M to $20M each: ~3,000 hired in 2026
So about 940 people hired by the end of 2024 average nine figures. Everyone hired since averages eight figures.
The 2024 class is the surprise. That year Anthropic granted 1.28B options at $1.30 a share. At $118, that one year of grants is worth about $133B.
Then there is the tender. In April, holders could sell at $25.91 a share. Investors lined up $6B, but only $4.7B sold.
Weeks later, Series H priced at $58.90 a share. At $2T, the people who held would be up 4.6x. And Dario and Daniela Amodei were among the sellers.
The 7 founders have pledged 80% of their equity to charity. That is about $159B at $2T. But the S-1 says the pledges are not legally binding.

YIKES! -> Google earnings call: "It's worth noting that the strong growth in AI mode queries had an impact because of the lower monetization we were seeing in AI mode."

$AXP American Express CEO: "you've heard a lot about banks that are blocking. And look, we're going to take a risk-based approach, too. We're just not going to let assistants run rogue through our systems. And that's not going to happen. We need to protect our customers, merchants, and we're only going to allow agents to access our systems that are either approved through API or MCP channels."
The surge in construction of fossil-fueled power plants to run AI data centers is set to undo 15 years’ worth of greenhouse gas reductions from US electricity generation bloomberg.com/news/newslette…
Could be.
In @FortuneMagazine - The AI payoff is real. The timeline is the problem.
Inside Goldman Sachs and Apollo, the CEOs see an unprecedented AI revolution, while their economists warn the boom is outpacing its payoff. The executives are right about the destination, and the economists are right about the distance.
In my latest with David Siegel and Stephen Henriques, we look at why the AI payoff is real, why enterprise adoption moves slower than capital, and why the herd has run ahead of it.

Just a timely reminder, before you rush to buy the Anthropic IPO, that out of the 20 largest public offerings since 2010, the average drawdown was 60% in their first 12 months.

Those are world class solar costs, which are increasingly hard to find in the US.
At @TerraformIndies we're often asked how, as a tiny start up in California, did we manage to build the cheapest utility scale solar array in North America? I asked @buildmattw to write a post on how he did it.

Anthropic just filed for an IPO that could value the company at over $2 trillion. Buried in the filing is a beautiful diagram explaining how the machine feeds itself. Naturally, I asked ChatGPT to translate it from investor relations into plain English.

JWST found methane on interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS that is 3.18% deuterium (Roth et al., Nature Astronomy). That's 13x comet 67P, ~200x Earth's seawater ratio and above any methane measured in the Solar System. The authors say it fits ice formed in a cold, metal-poor nursery.

ALT Illustrative bar chart on a log scale comparing deuterium-to-hydrogen ratios: Earth's ocean water about 0.016%, methane on comet 67P about 0.24%, and methane on interstellar object 3I/ATLAS 3.18%. Data from Roth et al., Nature Astronomy, 23 Oct 2026 (JWST), Rosetta/ROSINA and the VSMOW standard.
