Bill Esterson (@Bill_Esterson), chair of the Energy Security and Net Zero Committee (@CommonsESNZ), calls for remaining policy costs to move from electricity bills to gas bills.
The committee wants targeted help for vulnerable gas users, excess profits used to cut bills and clearer breakdowns for customers.

What a response.
Today, @maghullfc progressed to the Second Round of the FA Vase with a superb victory over a very good Colne FC side, despite having six first-team players unavailable. Huge credit to @Joe1Burns1878 and the squad of players.
After a week where sections of the media, including our own local press, have sought to disrespect the people who make this club what it is, today’s result spoke louder than any headline. Some of the reporting belongs in the gutter, and that’s exactly where it should stay.
@maghullfc is a community football club that cares deeply about its town and its people. The players, volunteers, supporters and committee continue to represent this club with pride.
Our supporters were outstanding once again today. Their backing was incredible and helped carry the team through another huge FA Vase tie.
We’re now just six games from Wembley.
Our Club.
Our People.
Our Town.
Winners Make it Happen💙🤍⚽
Disappointing that the headline talks about over diagnosis of ADHD and Autism when the substance of the report recognises the increasing numbers of children affected and the difficulties in obtaining a diagnosis and support. bbc.com/news/articles/crkg7n…
No worries. The thrust of our recommendations is that to take people with in the energy transition, the benefits have to be clearly available now. Climate on its own is not enough so the focus needs to be on co-benefits.
Replying to @Bill_Esterson
Yes, I’m sorry I focused on just one line and didn’t have time to do justice to the report as a whole, but it is a striking line!
John, thanks for this. We made a series of recommendations. Inc: government should ensure that people benefit from the energy transition through cheaper power, jobs, better health and a safer country. The comment about the name comes from the evidence presented to the committee.

This is why simply relabelling net zero would be disastrous for the green cause: it would look like an attempt, again, to pretend that the policy is something that it is not

The leader of @reformparty_uk in Wales, Dan Thomas, has resigned amid allegations of assault.
The leader before him, Nathan Gill, was sentenced to 10 and a half years in prison for accepting £40,000 in Russian bribes.
Maybe third times the charm, @Nigel_Farage?

This evening, an Emergency Alert has been sent to people across England and Wales as the wildfire risk remains very high. The request came directly from Fire and Rescue Services.
I was in Stourbridge today and saw first-hand the devastating impact these fires have had on people’s homes and lives.
Our priority now is to keep everyone safe and prevent more fires from starting.
During this period of extreme heat, I’m asking everyone to take extra care. Please do not light any fires in gardens, the countryside or other open spaces, including parks, moorland and wooded areas.
Our firefighters and emergency responders are working around the clock in incredibly difficult conditions.
We can all help them. Please take the Emergency Alert seriously and follow the guidance in place.

I’m deeply shocked & saddened to hear about the death of Jason Arday. My heartfelt condolences are with his friends and family at this very sad time. I urge people to give them privacy through this incredibly difficult period & to remember there are real people with loved ones involved.

Winter in Ukraine is no longer a season. It is a weapon.
Each year, as the temperature drops, Russia turns its missiles on the power stations keeping people alive.
Allies need to step up.

Things Reform has not denied:
- Nigel Farage received £5 million from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne and tried to keep it secret
- George Cottrell gave $2m to his mother just days before she gave huge donations to Reform
- Nigel Farage did a secret deal to return as Reform leader at a time when he still claims he had no involvement in politics and wasn’t planning to run as an MP
BREAK
Now Telegraph confirms Farage’s pre election leadership deal — this time attributing to Reform spokesman:
“A Reform spokesman said he only signed the deal to keep his options open after looking into which loans might have to be repaid if he were to come back”

Marina Road in Formby in my constituency is where @andyburnham lived for a short time when he was growing up. It's part of where he had his start in life and is a good place to reflect on his excellent start as Prime Minister.
Thanks to @MerPolFormby for their briefing to me and to local Cllrs about their work tackling anti-social behaviour at Duke St Park and at the beach. Higher fines as a deterrent to those blocking the roads and action on nitrous oxide canisters were two of our action points.
This is exactly what Andy Burnham has been saying. For too long, it's been seen as too difficult to fix. Instead of criticising Andy's plan, why don't you work with him, make suggestions of your own and help to find a solution to the social care crisis?
Andy Burnham thinks profit is the problem in social care. It isn’t. Reality is.
His plan would:
• hit taxpayers with huge new costs
• punish thousands of excellent independent and family-run care providers
• ignore half of adult social care, which supports working-age adults
Worst of all, it ignores the biggest flaw in the system. Councils have underpaid for care for years, with self-funding families quietly making up the shortfall.
Drive out the providers who keep that system afloat and you don’t create a National Care Service.
You create a National Care Crisis.

Thinking of Alice, Bebe and Elsie Dot, their families and friends, on this sad anniversary of the Southport attack.
My thoughts are also with those who were injured, our emergency services, first responders and all who continue to live with the impact of what happened that day.
