It’s worth repeating that the “root cause” of the 🇷🇺 war against 🇺🇦 is Vladimir Putin. Nothing less.
Signs multiply that a new round of war in the Middle East is coming after 🇺🇸 midterm elections. In 🇮🇱 Netanyahu doesn’t hide that he is eager to attack 🇮🇷, and Trump 🇺🇸 hints the same. In Tehran 🇮🇷 there seem to be preparations for a drawn-out regional confrontation.
The U.S. has told several Gulf Arab countries to be prepared for a short, intense military campaign after the U.S. midterm elections, people briefed on the conversations said. on.wsj.com/4yHXmSL
This is the most significant piece of news on the 🇷🇺 war against 🇺🇦 today. The steadfastness of Europe’s support for 🇺🇦 will make a significant difference, and most immediately this is a question of financial support.
Taking the train to Como 🇮🇹 for a couple of days of discussions in an agreeable environment. The future of Europe’s security will be the focus.
I know nothing about the content and purpose of the talk with Putin 🇷🇺, but if history was talked about, which happens frequently with Putin, I hope @alexstubb abd @jonasgahrstore informed Putin that most of todays 🇷🇺 is old Finnish-Ugrian territory, that the different Slav tribes come much later in a disorderly fashion, and it was only the Vikings that brought some order there.
Finland’s president and Norway’s prime minister spoke on phone with Russian President Putin, officials said.
The call was held to discuss the war and expected upcoming trilateral talks involving Russia, Ukraine and the U.S. apnews.com/article/russia-uk…
Left enchanting Syracuse 🇮🇹. The building of the cathedral there has been in continuous use as temple/mosque/church for 2.500 years.
Remarkable 🇹🇷 🇸🇦 🇵🇰 🇮🇷 meeting in Tehran. It’s obviously an attempt to prevent a new wave of fighting with 🇺🇸🇮🇱. But whether it will succeed is anyone’s guess.
I believe one should temper expectations for swift shifts in the basic policies of 🇷🇸. Restoration of rule of law, media freedom and basic democracy are obvious priorities, and should have strong 🇪🇺 support, but where 🇷🇸 is heading on foreign policy, 🇪🇺 aspirations and regional issues remains to be seen.
The first reactions from Brussels to the results of the early parliamentary elections in Serbia stressed the need to improve the rule of law.

The process of transition in 🇷🇸 isn’t instantaneous. First election result will be certified, new parliament will convene and then Student List must agree on PM and ministers and also on key issues of domestic and foreign policy. But in expectation of all this the dynamics of the region is already changing.
This is interesting. Key Putin 🇷🇺 aide Ushakov admits that the Anchorage plan of having Trump 🇺🇸 force Zelensky 🇺🇦 into agreeing to their demands hasn’t worked because of the role of Europe. That’s it: if Europe stays the course, 🇷🇺 can’t win.
Decisive win for Student List in 🇷🇸 and Vucic conceding defeat. Now it’s time for 🇪🇺 to accelerate and send clear signal on an open door for a 🇷🇸 with a reform government. But presidential elections must be held, and a new government set up.
The conventional wisdom talks about globalization slowly going into reverse - but the facts speak the opposition. Trade is however slowing between 🇺🇸 and 🇨🇳 - but that’s just 2% of global trade. The rest looks like booming. @DHLGlobal

There hasn’t been an active nuclear weapons program in 🇮🇷 since 2003, as confirmed by all Western intelligence agencies, but now Netanyahu is trying to scare the voters in Israel 🇮🇱 with images of a nuclear attack against Tel Aviv. He seeks a mandate for renewed war. cdn.i24news.tv/uploads/4f/e5…
Here @ecfr on different post-election scenarios for 🇷🇸. All will have repercussions throughout the region.
An unfair election and small-scale manipulation may not be enough to stop a shift in popular attitudes, as Viktor Orban’s stunning defeat in Hungary showed earlier this year. ecfr.eu/article/between-vuci…
Voting has started in 🇷🇸 with the future of the Vucic-run rule there to be decided. There might well be controversy in interpreting the result that will be announced.
It looks less than good in Tirana 🇦🇱 tonight. Hooligans and troublemakers no doubt, but against the background of genuine grievances.
Will see what the Israel 🇮🇱 election results in, but there is a very serious risk of an escalating conflict in the Gulf region by November. Everyone is likely to lose from it, but that is unfortunately unlikely to stop things.
Iran’s message is stark: If the U.S. and Israel restart their air campaign, Tehran will respond with strikes not only on American bases and warships but on airports, pipelines and other civilian targets in the neighboring countries of the Persian Gulf. on.wsj.com/4zP83nD
Yes, Bosnia 🇧🇦 deserves better than the current international and domestic stalemate.
Bosnia deserves better than permanent probation eualive.net/bosnia-deserves-… Bosnia's own political class, too many of whom remain trapped in the past and act provocatively precisely because the High Representative's powers shield them from consequences. By Christopher Geidt
