Collectors love to find a classic that’s hiding in plain sight. Go to Goodwill and maybe you’ll discover that random 1-of-100 private-press LP that you ordinarily couldn’t afford. Perhaps that yard sale may be the place you find a long-lost Whistler painting. Or maybe Grandpa left some items in the garage that harken to a previous era before jobs (and quality) were shipped elsewhere. journal.classiccars.com/2026…

What happens when you combine American muscle and Japanese sports-car agility? Apparently, some innovative folks have already found out. One of the cars on display at a Kyusha Club meet in Phoenix was an RX-7 with a turbocharged GM small-block V-8 under the hood … well, technically there was no hood because it probably wouldn’t fit over the engine. journal.classiccars.com/2026…

One of the most famous lines from the 1994 movie “Forrest Gump” is “My mama always said life was like a box of chocolates: You never know what you’re gonna get.” The Car Connections series is very similar because you never know which exact prompts I’ll use or how I’ll link to them to automobiles. For this installment, I took US Top 40 singles for the week ending November 12, 1966, and managed to find ways to associate them with cars. Those songs are “Dandy” by Herman’s Hermits (#5), “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” by The Supremes (#7), and “Hooray for Hazel” by Tommy Roe (#14). You’ll see how I connected those songs to Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, and Velocity Restorations, but how would you associate them with cars? journal.classiccars.com/2026…

Ford’s performance image on the racetrack was beyond reproach in the Total Performance years, but its image on the street left a lot to be desired. Ford introduced our Pick of the Day to improve its standing with the performance crowd, but it suffered from a quirk particular to the marque that no other brand had. Chevrolet has made thousands of C4, C6, C7, and C8 Corvette Grand Sports, but it produced only five original Grand Sports back in the 1960s. We were honored to see chassis 003 during Monterey Car Week. “The Father of the Corvette,” Zora Arkus-Duntov, knew the original Corvette could be a better performer, so he and his team set about to make one that could beat Carroll Shelby’s Cobras on the track. A combination of creative thinking, drastic weight reduction, and private race teams led to chassis 003 racking up multiple SCCA class wins and a 2nd-in-class finish at the 1964 Twelve Hours of Sebring — and made the original Grand Sport models into automotive icons. journal.classiccars.com/2026…

On last week’s “Settle The Debate, we discussed which TV family had the more interesting vehicle: The Munsters or The Beverly Hillbillies. This week, Election Day has inspired me to ask for your vote on something else. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, there were a handful of muscle cars offered with stripes, spoilers, and and sometimes bright colors. Who did it the best? It’s up to you to make your voice heard! journal.classiccars.com/2026…

Depending on where you look, you’re bound to find a few different backstories on how the 2001-10 Chrysler PT Cruiser acquired its name. Yet according to a story published by Jalopnik (which included an interview with a Chrysler engineer), it’s because the 2000 Dodge Neon — a compact car upon which the PT Cruiser was based — had the internal code name “PL,” turning that into the “P Tall.” Some sources also say the name stood for “Personal Transportation.” Feel free to adopt your own theory. journal.classiccars.com/2026…

• 1998 Land Rover Defender 110 Camel Trophy • This Defender is tied to one of the most recognizable off-road events of the 20th century. Camel Trophy began in 1980, with Land Rover joining the event the following year and quickly becoming one of the names most closely associated with it. This 1998 Defender 110 was used by the United States team of Dean Vergillo and Greg Thomas during the Tierra del Fuego event, the final Camel Trophy to directly involve Land Rovers. The route stretched from Santiago, Chile, to Ushuaia, Argentina, with Defenders supporting the teams and carrying equipment for Adventure checkpoints, including skis, mountain bikes, and kayaks. We saw this one at Pebble Beach, and it’s a great example of how a support vehicle can end up carrying just as much history as the competition itself.   Want to buy or sell a collector vehicle? What happens when a manufacturer tasks its racing division to let enthusiasts on the team to go all in? You get epic vehicles with a lot of unbelievable specs … and zero hope that they’ll be available to purchase at dealerships. That being said, manufacturers can use these vehicles to influence their future. At SEMA 2026, we are able to witness what happens when Ford lets its enthusiasts run wild — the result is a 1,200-plus-horsepower 2026 Bronco nicknamed “Frostwarden.” journal.classiccars.com/2026…

No matter how much you love something, you can become desensitized to it — yes, this even applies to cars. I comb through dozens of ClassicCars.com listings every time I need a vehicle to profile as the latest Pick of the Day. While all of them have certain attractive characteristics, not all of them jump out at me the way this week’s Pick of the Day has. Once I got a glimpse of its lines and colors, I couldn’t pass it up. When it comes to OEM colors, Royal Plum is certainly a top 5 hue for me. I can remember when I first saw a car in this color: it was a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS 427 that appeared in the May 1986 issue of Popular & Performance Car Review. Pontiac also offered this color as Plum Mist for 1967, though it actually was a special-order spring 1966 color that seems to be quite elusive. journal.classiccars.com/2026…

In 2022, I was invited to show a car for the first time at The Amelia Concours. I had shown at other events including The Quail, Hilton Head, and the Lime Rock Historic Festival, but showing at Amelia was another thing entirely. Even though I was nervous, by this point, I had been a judge at various concours d’elegance events for several years, and during that time, I had met friends who gave me great advice on what to do and how to do it. Since that first showing at Amelia, where we finished second in our class, I have been back every year with a car and have won an award every year but one. In addition, I also had the honor of being selected to show a car at Pebble Beach in 2025. Again, I turned to friends for advice, and we had an amazing time and presented the car well. journal.classiccars.com/2026…

The Porsche 356 Speedster was a cultural symbol with Hollywood appeal. Produced from 1954-58 after having been commissioned for the U.S. market by importer Max Hoffman, the Speedster featured a minimalist design, with a low windshield, a folding fabric top, removable side curtains, and fixed-back bucket seats. The car helped establish Porsche’s motorsport reputation in the United States and was a massive commercial hit. And just look at those lines — it was captivating from every angle. journal.classiccars.com/2026…

• 1965 Iso Grifo A3/C Berlinetta • This is the kind of car you can go years without seeing in person. The Iso Grifo A3/C was created as the competition version of the Grifo, with Giotto Bizzarrini handling the engineering and a lightweight aluminum body wrapped around Chevrolet V8 power. The engine was pushed far back in the chassis for better weight distribution, and the exposed rivets covering the body give the car a look that feels equal parts beautiful and purpose-built. Only a small number were produced before Bizzarrini and Iso went their separate ways, making surviving A3/Cs seriously rare today. We spotted this 1965 example at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, and if you want the full story, we have a video on the Collector Car Network YouTube channel that goes much deeper into how this car came together.   Want to buy or sell a collector vehicle? We featured September’s Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race last month. Perhaps the pictures gave you an idea of the visuals, but they hardly provided information on the nitty-gritty, such as how the cars were equipped and their elapsed times. A total of 117 muscle cars qualified and raced (an additional nine dropped out due to mechanical issues), and now you can see how they all ran. journal.classiccars.com/2026…

There are thousands of cars on ClassicCars.com, but some of them are on a completely different level of rarity and importance. Although you may have to dig deep to find these significant vehicles with amazing history, the search is well worth the time. A perfect example of this kind of car is our Pick of the Day: a Mille Miglia-raced 1929 OM 665 Superba in Milano, Italy, listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a U.S.-based broker.
