We have roughly 250 applicants for The Trip of Your Life! Right now we are looking for a Starlink sponsor, and podcasters to apply to host the podcast that we will broadcast from the train. We'd like to do this on X Spaces - but looking for sponsorship there too.
Also now up / photos of the train cars we are taking! We will put up interior photos soon.

The next decade won't reward tourists. It will reward people who combine audacity with discipline. Who understand that technology cycles come and go, but that building enduring companies requires clarity of purpose and consistency of execution.
Venture has always been about backing outliers. That hasn't changed. If anything, it matters more now.
I went to a bar by myself and set an intention to embody openness and joy. No phone and doom scrolling.
3 people talked to me out of the blue and we connected on fun topics. The bartender Gian and I swapped weird hobbies with each other and went deep on unreasonable hospitality (he is the kind of bartender that goes out to the bodega for his customers to get them electrolytes at bar closing).
He said a line that struck me. “I’m obsessed with bartending because as an introvert this craft allows me to connect with people 1:1.”
The world is full of people to meet and be joyful with.

Zipline now worth $21.5 billion, making it the 2nd most successful thing ever launched from a construction trailer after meth.
Today, Zipline raised $1.5b at a $21.5b valuation.
When we started Zipline, flying autonomously in the US was illegal. Which made it really hard to convince investors to give us money! But we were too naive to think that meant we shouldn’t try.
We started the company on a cow farm. We worked out of run-down construction trailers so that we could keep engineering, manufacturing, and flight test all unified and in one place. Hiring people from normal companies like Google was hard because we didn’t have a cafe or laundry service. But enough risk takers and rebels wanted to go on an insane adventure with us. They became the early team.
We decided to launch in smaller countries and focus on life-saving use cases. We hired incredible entrepreneurs and operators in Rwanda, Ghana, Cote D’Ivoire, and other countries. For eight years, Zipline expanded our service across Africa, serving thousands of hospitals and health facilities and reducing maternal mortality by 51%. Today, the network saves over 14k lives every year and is cash flow positive.
Last year, Zipline launched at scale in the US and the service exploded. We grew flight volumes about 100x over the last 18 months, and now make more than a million deliveries a year per metro. We’re now expanding with our partners to millions of deliveries per day. Normal families love having access to anything they need in 10-20 minutes, no matter where they live. Spend more time with loved ones and less time worrying about errands.
Zipline builds drone delivery that is silent and safe. No one wants to hear an extremely loud “swarm of bees” delivering to their backyard or their neighbor’s. Automated delivery needs to be insanely quiet, which guided the overall architecture of our technology delivering from 330 ft in the air. We are 6 times quieter than the closest competitor during delivery. Zipline also now has over 150m commercial autonomous miles (10x the rest of the industry combined) and no safety incidents. Neighborhoods should demand silent and safe delivery!
Today, Zipline is announcing two things. First, we just signed the largest autonomous vehicle contract in human history to expand automated delivery nationally with Walmart, our first and biggest partner in the US. We’re starting by scaling to 300 supercenters throughout the country. Second, we’ve raised $1.5b at a $21.5b valuation from existing and new investors, led by Paradigm, WCM, and Layer.
Zipline was a hard company to believe in for the first ten years of our history. Investors didn’t think the company was “investable”. Most people didn’t even think Zipline was an economic venture. Thanks to those who have rooted for us along the way. To all of the tens of millions of customers and families who rely on Zipline day in and day out: thank you for helping us build the future. Zipline has grown more than @ryanzip, @keenanwyrobek, I, and all others at the company could have imagined.
There is a big opportunity to build a new layer of infrastructure for humanity over the coming years. We want to approximate teleportation. We can build a logistics network that connects and serves all people on earth. We can free human flourishing from the choking constraint of traffic and roads. There are no roads where we’re going. 🚀🌎
Can we talk about how amazingly cool this is?!! Please let us keep ourselves together long enough to do this!!
you'll likely have a real conversation with a whale in your lifetime
i mean literal back and forth, with AI turning your words into whale clicks
it's all thanks to Project CETI: the largest attempt in history to talk to another species
sperm whales have the biggest brain on earth
and they've been talking in the deep ocean for millions of years, but no human has ever understood a single word of it
so CETI trained AI on nearly 9,000 of their calls
and amazingly, it discovered a "phonetic alphabet" that's 7x more expressive than scientists thought
then they trained a language model on their actual whale conversations, which they call "ChatGPT 1 for sperm whale" lol
today, it can eavesdrop on them making plans and predict what they're about to do with 86% accuracy
for example:
before they go hunting, a family of sperm whales will float at the surface and click back and forth
then everyone joins in and they all head down together
it's basically a family deciding it's time to go get dinner
but we still don't know what most of those calls mean
and the way to find out is to start talking back
AI can already generate its own whale calls, so researchers can play them to real whales and see how they respond
every response teaches the AI a little more about what the calls mean
and the team behind it plans to make it conversational in the coming years
at that point, you say something and a whale answers
one researcher predicts the whale won't even be able to tell it's talking to a machine
that would be a world first: a real conversation with another species in its own language
and the one answering you has a brain 5x the size of yours
Don’t tell my LPs, but I joined OpenAI and quit five minutes later. Then I went to Anthropic and emptied their trash. Now I’m monitoring the situation at the xAI water cooler.
What I saw in those five minutes will reshape the face of humanity.
You don’t want to know what they’re drinking.

There is a difference between delayed communication and ghosting. Important to know the difference!
~~~
A reply to a teen maker:
"Reading into intent is a big learning in life!
Ghosting, Wikipedia says it's 'the practice of suddenly ending all communication and contact with someone without any warning or explanation, and then ignoring their attempts to reach out.' As far as I know, you replied to the last email I sent you and have not tried again. I would call that a delay in communication, not ghosting. Ghosting also has a personal connotation to it, like something personal against you. We wish you nothing but the best while we're doing all the many things we do at 1517...no matter how long it takes to respond.
Maybe you're used to working with teachers or professionals who don't get as much email to respond to as we do. I get 100 emails a day (many of which actually need a response and not just a push of "archive") and that doesn't include DMs, texts, etc. It takes time to go through them. And my day is booked back to back with meetings. So I don't always have time everyday to even do any email at all.
So I'd appreciate your patience. I know it's hard to wait, but it's also hard to manage more than is reasonable for any one person to do.
While you wait, you can make progress and carry on. Always happy to hear updates in the meantime (and a smart way to follow up is to send another message with a couple updates and checking in). Onward!"
You gotta try this!!
UPDATE: we are opening new "DUO" sessions ✨
2 ppl only: couples, friends, coworkers.
same challenge, smaller crew: are you two actually the strongest pair in the realm?
Take my money
NEW: Revere Robotics is building a robot that takes your trash bin to the curb and brings it back for you.
Curbie attaches to your existing trash can and is designed to handle the weekly curb run without needing a special bin.
-Attaches directly to standard residential trash bins
-Drives the bin to the curb on collection day
-Brings it back after pickup
-Designed to move bins weighing 100+ lbs
-Being built for rain, snow, and icy sidewalks
-Stops and alerts you if it detects an unsafe tilt
Pricing has not been announced yet.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The video shows concept renders of the prototype, not operational footage of a working robot. Revere Robotics lists Curbie as an early field prototype in development.
