🏹 R O B I N • H O O D • H A L F • M A R A T H O N 🏹
…a weekend that has given me so much, asked so much of me, and created more memories than I could ever count.
2015 — this fat lad from Bestwood completed his first half marathon… became completely addicted to running, community and everything that comes with it ✅
2017 — met a girl at the Southbank Bar’s post-race drinks 👩🏻❤️💋👨🏽
2018 — became an ambassador for @RobinHoodHalf 🤝
2020 — organised and ran the route with 40 others, socially distanced, during Covid… on what should have been the event’s 40th anniversary 🙌
2021 — at mile 12, asked the girl’s Dad if I could ask a very important question 💍
2022 — completed his first Robin Hood as a married man… just a few weeks after our big day ❤️
Somewhere along the way, this race became so much more than a race…
• I’ve trained, supported and encouraged countless people to take part 💪
• Arranged brilliant after-parties for 10 years, celebrating our home event in our city 🍾
• Organised teams of volunteers to support the event for the last decade, including this year 👍
• Created unique ways of fundraising, helping local charities benefit along the way 💷
• Volunteered for 10 years on the bib collection desk.
And they wonder why I love it…
Because, in some shape or form, it’s always been EPIC for me 💥
I haven’t always been in the best place to run it.
I haven’t always been fit enough.
I certainly haven’t always got the result I wanted.
But how could I not absolutely love it?
Throw in the running group memories.
The friends — old and new.
The laughs, the tears, the celebrations.
The finish lines.
The people who have shared this incredible journey.
I genuinely don’t think anyone could have got more out of our half marathon.
They probably have but… I’ve always DOne it my way! I wouldn’t change a single thing👌
In 2015 my life was a mess! I chose to run, nobody encouraged or inspired me! I got the bus, I ran the race - there was no one at the end - I went home.
I made it happen…
Now, I have and have done everything I ever wanted and so much more.
This year, I’m heading to that start line injured again.
But nothing — and no one — can take away everything this weekend, this event and this journey have given me.
This time, it’s different.
Less about the clock.
Less about proving anything.
More about family.
More about the memories.
More about soaking it all in.
A more personal experience.
So, whatever anyone says or thinks 🤷🏻♂️ #letthem
RHHM weekend…

This football club has been on my doorstep for years, of course, I’ve been meaning to get down… it’s wasn’t until this season that I have.
Today, in the smallest of small ways, through DOrunning, I have afforded myself the chance to get behind Dunkirk FC with a tiny bit of support every club at this level needs.
Believe me, it’s nothing major - if I’ve not made that clear - it’s more of a small repayment for the enjoyment I’ve already taken from following a couple of games, and to raise awareness my own community feel-good event.
eventbrite.com/e/footprints-…
I get to as many games as I can, not just during the international break. It’s becoming a sanctuary away from the intensity I put into my other passions in life.
I encourage anyone who loves proper football, wants real VFM and wants to get behind a brilliant project… to get along to Lenton Lane, not just this afternoon but for the season beyond.
We are the Boatmen, the mighty Boatmen ⛴️

ROBIN HOOD HALF MARATHON 2026 ✅
It’s that time of year, for that photo! Another pleasing run around the world’s the best city 🏹
Why would you not love it?
Thankfully, all the hard work from the summer training helped me stand up to the challenge. With virtually no running in the last 6 weeks and the last couple feeling really ill and weak, I was genuinely targeting a sub-2:30.
To post a 2:09 is possibly the best result I could have asked for. I got my head down, forgot the watch and tried to reign myself in. It worked! The Park took it out the hammy but overall it stood up to task.
Brilliant to take part without worrying about where or what everyone else is doing but it’s still an epic weekend that I know I’ve had. Now for the post race celebrations 🍻
Ten times round 🙌
Tomorrow, we start on that London…

2 YEARS AGO TODAY… I WENT COAST TO COAST ↔️
192 miles. 7 days. Across the North of England.
Incredible to think back to that moment, stood with my feet in the water, knowing I’d just completed something that would change so much more than I could ever have imagined.
Lots has happened since. The good, the bad and the indifferent. That’s life. But I had the mindset, the courage and the determination to give it a go and to see it through. I’m still incredibly proud, not just of the achievement, but of the indescribable difficulties encountered, endured and ultimately conquered along the way.
Some of the biggest battles you face are the ones nobody else ever sees.
When you strip away the noise, the distractions and the expectations of others, you’re left with yourself. Your thoughts, your doubts and your vulnerabilities. No applause, nobody to impress. Just you, putting one foot in front of the other and finding a way to keep going when stopping would be so much easier.
It’s in those moments you discover who you really are.
I’ve never really sat down and explained everything that journey meant to me. Perhaps I never will, and I don’t need to. Some experiences are deeply personal, and their value doesn’t depend on anyone else understanding them.
The C2C, despite me not talking about it very often, taught me lessons that will shape the person I am until my very last day.
It taught me that character matters more than image, kindness means more than popularity and showing up when nobody is watching says more about you than anything you could ever post online.
It taught me that you don’t need to have everything figured out. You just need the courage to be honest with yourself, accept your vulnerabilities and keep working on the person you want to become.
Most importantly, it taught me that SUPERFICIAL IS BORING.
I have far more time for real conversations, genuine connections and people who mean what they say. For those who show up when it matters, celebrate others without jealousy and offer a hand without expecting anything in return.
We live in a world that places so much importance on appearances, status and the impression we leave on others. When life gets difficult, none of that means much. What matters is who you are when things go wrong, how you treat people when there’s nothing to gain and whether the person you present to the world is the person you are when nobody is looking.
REAL beats PERFECT. EVERY SINGLE TIME.
I’m not the same person who stood in that water two years ago. Life has tested me in different ways since, and there’s still plenty to learn. But I carry those 192 miles with me every day.
Not because I came away believing I was invincible, but because I learned I didn’t need to be.
I just needed to be willing. Willing to try, to fail, to feel uncomfortable and to face the parts of myself I might otherwise have avoided.
Two years on, I’m grateful I took that chance. For the challenge, the lessons, the perspective and the person it helped me become.
The real achievement was never just getting from one coast to the other. It was discovering a little more about myself along the way.
Life is too short to live for appearances, too precious to waste chasing approval and too meaningful not to make a difference where we can.
Be real. Be kind. Be grateful. Keep showing up.
192 miles. 7 days. Lessons that will last a lifetime…

Starting annual leave with what’s going to be a pretty epic 8 days on the road… first stop, Vermuyden Way parkrun in sunny Scunny 🚗
A bitterly cold start, but thankfully things warmed up nicely for me, Kay and Stanny to clock up 5k on this straightforward out-and-back course. Pretty sure he loved it 🖤
Boggy underfoot, with a motorway overhead, but surprisingly picturesque and full of colour. The brilliant volunteers from the Legion made it a super-friendly welcome, too 🤝
Not the kindest course for niggly injuries, but a lovely morning all the same. Another parkrun ticked off ✅
Next stop, heading a little further south for breakfast and footie, before turning north again later 🧭
Let the adventures begin… 👊

There’s something pretty special about seeing DOrunning associated with other grass roots organisations and projects in Nottingham 🤝
We’re incredibly proud to announce DOrunning will be the Official Match Ball Partner of @Dunkirk_FC for their game against Pinxton at Lenton Lane, on Saturday ⚽️
Grassroots sport, community, participation and giving people a reason to get active — is exactly what DOrunning has been about since 2019.
From runs to football and social group activity, and everything in between, grassroots sport is where so much good starts. It brings people together, creates friendships, builds confidence and gives communities something to be proud of.
And Dunkirk FC is right in the heart of our Nottingham community ❤️🖤
We’re absolutely delighted to play a small part in supporting the club, its players, volunteers and everyone who makes matchday happen.

💜 DOrunning x Pure Padel, Nottingham 💜
I’m super excited to announce that DOrunning will be collaborating with Pure Padel, Nottingham, as part of this year’s Footprints in the Snow 5k event.
Initially, they’ll become our latest food collection venue, with a view to getting more involved and fully behind our feel good Christmas offering as we look to grow.
Throughout December, visitors to their club with be able leave food donations, to go to our wider collection for Bestwood and Bulwell Foodbank, supporting families throughout the Christmas period and cold winter months.
This is an exciting development. It was great to visit Chris, Manager at Pure Padel and discuss partnership opportunities. Working with an organisation that understand the importance of activity and looking to grow themselves is a brilliant addition to what we are trying achieve, in making Footprints in the Snow a permanent fixture in the calendar.
Last year, generous donations from our community provided enough food for over 300 meals. This year, we’d love to collect even more but we can’t DO that without your help ❤️
If you’d like to get involved, we’ll be sharing more information soon about how and when you can drop off your donations at one of our partner locations 🙏
Other businesses can also support the appeal by hosting a donation drop-off point or organising a group collection. If you’d like to take part, please get in touch.
All donations will be collected in advance of our Footprints in the Snow 5k event at the Trent Navigation on 20th December 🏃🏻♀️ 🏃🏻♂️

I organise a feel good 5k run/walk event from the @TrentNavigation on the last Sunday before Christmas, which includes a large food collection for the homeless and a significant donation to charity.
This year the beneficiaries will be @footprintscec and the Bestwood & Bulwell foodbank. Not only an incredible charity but a chance once again to support those in most need in the area I grew up.
Absolutely everyone can take part, to earn a medal & t-shirt and to know they've done something amazing. It really is accessible to all. Last year we had almost 100 participants - whilst it has the spirit of a fun run, it also encourages keen runners with prizes for the first 3 females & males.
To sign up and for full details please check out: eventbrite.com/.../footprint…...
New this year, I have set up a virtual offering, so those that really cant make it, can still participate from wherever you are. I'm also are looking for volunteers, to marshal for just a couple of hours on a Sunday morning.
If involvement is not possible, we will be taking food donations throughout December. If you'd like to contribute, please get in touch. I'll happily collect from you (from now), if necessary.
Finally, if you know anyone who would like to sponsor the event or become a partner, I'd love to have a chat. This is something I'd love to grow, to make an annual fixture in the calendar, so that we can continue to support collectively at such a crucial time of year.
That is loads of ways to get involved! The event itself is brilliant VFM. By sharing this post or supporting, it's free to get involved, knowing you'll be doing your little bit to spread festive cheer.
Thank you so much in advance❤️🔥

Spilsby 10k ✅
Gorgeous morning at the Spilsby Show doing our thing and enjoying rural Lincolnshire.
Brilliant race organised by the Skegness and District Running Club. I’m absolutely over the moon with a 53 minute effort. It’s was slightly delayed and warm but I can’t grumble with that kind of time after all the miles put in of late.
The show was lovely too. Countryside activities, pints and even a fly by from a Hurricane Bomber - that was pretty awesome. Now for a few pubs in the town before heading back to the van.
@kayoldham22 blitzed it too, insane running! Definitely, our kind of Sunday! In her words… what a lovely summer we’re having ❤️

M O N D A Y + M O T I V A T I O N
For as open and transparent as I try to be, weight is the one thing that still takes me furthest outside my comfort zone.
Because I run so much - and talk about it - people often say, "You do it all the time, you must be super fit." I wish!
From the very first day I pulled on a pair of scraggy old trainers to my 10K last night, running has never, ever felt easy. It never has.
A while ago, I made a conscious decision never to call a run "easy" again. While I completely believe in the benefits of running and enjoy sharing my accomplishments and thoughts, I'd like to think I never come across as condescending or egotistical.
For someone who still struggles with their weight, how could I?
I'm the first to admit that old habits die hard. Just as running never came naturally, managing my weight is still something that fluctuates from one extreme to the other. It's a constant work in progress.
I'd love to be a better runner, but those old habits have often held back my progress. In recent years, the social side of running started to take over why I first fell in love with it. I'm grateful for the friendships it's given me, but I've also learned that, for me personally, it wasn't doing me any favours.
I was always encouraging and supporting everyone else but who was pushing me? My wife, of course. Although she'd probably be the first to admit that, at times, we have been each other's own worst enemy.
On 17th July 2023, I took the picture on the left before beginning my Coast to Coast training. Looking back, that was the moment I truly started putting myself first. I got fitter than I'd been in years... but then I became ill.
It wasn't life-threatening, but it was another setback. We all face them. It made it difficult to maintain the shape I'd worked so hard for. Thankfully, I recovered but, as often happens, a little complacency crept back in.
Fast forward to 17th July 2026, the other day, and I took the picture on the right...
The biggest difference is the definition in my neck and shoulders. After months of really working on myself - still with the odd blip, but far fewer and further between - I finally feel confident enough to recognise the progress I've made.
Everything I learned while trekking Coast to Coast alone has stayed with me. Life is simply one step in front of the other, and the only person I can truly rely on is myself. No one will ever know what I was up against for that crazy 7 days in October 24.
No one or nothing gives me the same sense of satisfaction as running... or simply being a little better than I was yesterday.
The mission isn't complete - not even close - but by focusing on what, and who, matters most, I'm genuinely enjoying the challenge and the hard work of becoming healthier, fitter and faster.
Apparently, in running circles you're not supposed to talk about pace, it's frowned upon.
But this is my journey…
I chuckle away when the naysayers say it's all about you blah blah blah! With not a single thing prove, absolutely it is, I just wish it was before now...
I've put the work in, and I'll continue to do so. I love surrounding myself with people who show the same commitment and determination. When it comes to yourself, you're absolutely allowed to strive for whatever the fuck you want.
Thankfully, right now, Kay and I are finally on the same page. In fact, she's probably forging a little ahead. That only motivates me even more. You see, I look for inspiration wherever I can find it... nothing was ever achieved by fakery!
Hopefully, whatever bumps appear in the road over the next three years, I'll look back at this post with the same sense of pride that I feel today.
Progress isn't perfect. It never will be. But it's still progress.
And, I'll continue to use this and other platforms to instil my own levels of accountability... because you can only really get comfortable with anything when you've accepted it's adversity.

HECKINGTON 10 ✅
Busy week of race events rounded off with 10 miles in the Lincolnshire countryside. Followed by a pint and stroll around the show…
Extremely hot, even for a 9am start, having no shelter as we tackled the Fens, made it tough! Really pleased to be on point with my intended pace. Carrying niggles from a sustained period of training, even more so! 1:30 on the nose.
Weekends at the caravan, new race day events and country shows, we’re absolutely grateful and have loved the #LincolnshireLife this summer!
The show was brilliant, and we didn’t even stick around for the good stuff. One to re-visit and take in fully. For now, another ticked off.
Not finished just yet…
