So excited for @GiuliaFilippin5 who submitted her PhD thesis today evaluating the influence of shellfish on nitrogen cycling. Congratulations Giuli! So many wonderful science adventures ahead!! @DrABugnot @mqnatsci
Oyster reefs facilitate bioturbation in surrounding sediments. You can read all about it here: doi.org/10.1002/ecs2.4021. Also, a sneak peek of upcoming work, these same bioturbators drive nutrient cycling around reefs. Stay tuned, a lot more to come @SydneySOLES @harbourprogram
Very proud of the amazing work that just came out in Nature Sustainability forecasting the expansion of coastal infrastructure. Led by the Biosecurity team @Cawthron_NZ. @Sydney_Science @eec_sydney

A great mix of science, entrepreneurship and gourmet cuisine. Thanks @USydMSI @SEI_Sydney and @DrAnaVC for organising this fun event. Fingers crossed we can taste oysters F2F next year!
What a fantastic #oyster event! Thanks so much to our panelists for a very informative evening, and enjoyable oyster tasting!
Watch this space for more events coming up! @DrAnaVC @DrABugnot @rubio_oysters

Can you spot the bioturbator?
Replying to @themarinediary
Master’s student @Juliamarine25 is finding out if #bioturbator burrows could also influence N2 removal. She paired the chamber data with DNA analysis of sediment bacterial communities inside the burrows, to see if they are a habitat for nitrogen-fixing bacteria. (3/3)

Australian #oysterreef habitat has declined drastically since pre-colonisation times. Our focus is studying the funamendal #ecology of our remnant oystereefs in order to provide guidelines for future #restoration efforts @GribbenLab gribbenlab.org/

We are doing a #TakeOver of @themarinediary today to talk about our research on Sydney Rock #oysterreefs, and what we are learning to help the #shellfishrestoration efforts! Tune in to find out what our students are up to, supported by partners @nswdpi & @nature_org.
Join us ✨TOMORROW✨(🗓️31st) for a #takeover by the Sydney Harbour Research Program!
They will discuss their ongoing research on remnant Sydney Rock #OysterReefs, and what they are learning to help the #ShellfishRestoration efforts in Australia.

More than 32,000 square kilometres of the world’s marine environment has been modified by human construction and this is likely to reach nearly 40,000 by 2028. @DrABugnot @Sydney_Uni @harbourprogram bit.ly/2YO0D4P
