Hoping for a deal soon but commentariat optimism is misplaced, naive and echoes the US left which is not relevant for us. - Trump's most incentivized before mid-terms not after - US has more leverage than last week - Hoekstra's optimism doesn't imply a good result for Canada

Brutal. Continually expanding government-funded journalism is dangerous for democracy. And we wonder why Canadians mostly listen to American podcasts.
The slow and steady march of Canada's journalism industry becoming nearly completely subsidized by and reliant on government money continues, ...as the subsidies now spread beyond print to TV and radio newsrooms, following heavy lobbying: $501 million in spending over five years. $85 million ongoing. Today's budget: "Budget 2026 proposes to extend eligibility for the Canadian Journalism Labour Tax Credit to the production of audio and audiovisual news. Audio and audiovisual news organizations that qualify as a QCJO and meet existing CJLTC-specific Canadian ownership requirements would be eligible to claim the tax credit in respect of the salary or wages of an eligible newsroom employee. Qualifying organizations would be entitled to the same 35-per-cent credit rate and annual labour expenditure limit of $85,000 per employee that apply to written news production. I've been saying it for years, this place is a silo, like most text-based social platforms. there is no "repeal the 19th" cohort. there is no "100 million deportations" cohort. there is no "everyone hates Indian Americans" cohort. people on this website have been "yes and"ing themselves into fake golden ages and meme wars and none of it is real. None of it.

Accepts the results and doesn't blame Canada.
President Trump calls Fox News to reflect on the election results: "A little bit surprised. I felt badly about Darline (Graham)... I thought they'd do better, actually." While talking about working with Democrats, Trump floated "the power of veto" but "I hope not to do that." And he called Fox's pollster "the worst." #Elections2026 #Midterms2026 #BlueWave

This morning, the phrase racing through my mind is "too big to rig," how high IQ Dem strategists describe on podcasts what their margin of victory must be tonight to dissuade Trump from seriously disputing the results. Godspeed!

Jean-Luc Picard remains the single most compelling vision of progressive politics I am familiar with — secular, rational, compassionate, egalitarian; a believer in progress & abundance but also duty, hard work, and a constant battle for self-improvement and improving the world.

ChatGPT's timeline on the painfully dumb "Gérin-Lajoie doctrine" talk this week, and possibly the first tweet that got the ball rolling. Pundits, some ostensibly federalists, citing this as relevant to the week's events are complete amateurs.

Vassalisation, invisibilisation, subordination *et* marginalisation ?! Une véritable bock-côtisation de nos communications diplomatiques.

There's no one better. Would be fun if Dems dared Trump to amend the constitution to allow for a third term.
Barack Obama decided to hit Pete Hegseth with the elbow from the top rope. Absolutely brutal takedown.

Can't help but wonder if Bibi and Israel's enemies use the same AI to churn out nihilistic slop.
Netanyahu shares text warning that failure to reelect him could lead to ‘second holocaust’ alongside computer-generated image seeming to depict a nuclear explosion in central Israel 🔗Read more here: haaretz.com/israel-news/elec…

Remarkable to see members of the populist right chudosphere who have spent their professional lives fueling Conservative decline rejoicing from the sidelines. Nothing learned.
Relatively normal and likeable dude replaces deeply unpleasant and polarizing political animal as leader of conservative party and wins massively, in what is surely a fluke one-off with no broader meaning or significance that anyone should pay attention to or ponder in any way.

There is something deeply wrong with a political system that allows one trillionaire to buy his own personal U.S. Senator.
There is something deeply wrong with Talarico
