Citizens Are Europe’s “First Line of Defence” for Democracy! European Commissioner @EUCssrMcGrath called on the European Parliament and national parliaments to play a central role in defending democracy across Europe. We discussed strengthening the rule of law, advancing justice reforms, ensuring the independence and efficiency of the judiciary, and enhancing transparency in public office. Romania remains committed to close cooperation with the European Commission and to implementing the reforms needed to further strengthen the justice system.

I welcome the agreement by EU Finance Ministers to remove the customs exemption for low-value parcels entering the EU. It will strengthen our capacity to manage the rising inflow of small parcels into the EU market, protecting consumers from unsafe products.

Most low-value parcels entering the EU originate from China. I used my recent visit there to stress the need to ensure product safety both at the source & customs borders. In the coming days, I will present the Consumer Agenda – our roadmap to reinforce consumer rights across 🇪🇺
