It's 90° today, and I handed out some frozen water bottles to our unhoused neighbors during my lunch break.
A lot of the elderly people are having a really hard time with the heat.
Throw some water bottles in your freezer and hand them out.
You could be saving a life.

Connecting unsheltered people with permanent housing and wraparound services immediately, rather than arresting them for sleeping outside?
Very demure, very mindful.
In July, we celebrate #DisabilityPrideMonth, honoring diversity and resilience. Navigating homelessness with a disability brings hidden challenges and advocating for inclusivity is crucial, ensuring all feel supported. Let's restore dignity through empathy and action #TheyAreUs

ALT The infographic shows that 65,000 out of the 181,000 unhoused Californians are disabled. It describes that those who are disabled and unhoused struggle with physical safety + exploitation, unequal access to healthcare, lack of public accessibility, and social isolation + discrimination. At the bottom, it states that "Disability does not define, but adds layers of complexity to the journey towards stability for the unhoused."

~40% of LA renters have worried about losing their homes recently. There’s a new initiative for affordable housing, rent subsidies & mental healthcare that has been written by community experts.
Not a coincidence.

I’m a housing reporter in LA who is currently looking for housing, and the roadblocks I’m running into are wild. We already know affordability is an issue but the criteria to just be considered is insane, too.

Homelessness is "one of those societal problems that policing has been thrust in the middle of,” says Derick Miller, chief of @IrvingPD.
“In a perfect world, the first call isn’t to the police, it’s to organizations that can help people in need.”

"We squander funds on highways...on recreation, on armament... but we pauperize education... Many white Americans of goodwill... never connected bigotry with economic exploitation. They have deplored prejudice but tolerated or ignored economic injustice."
