Thanks to Gemini, I've discovered that, in this post, I understated the state's expected spending in 2026-27 on employee benefits by $795 million. That's because the "State Retirement Contributions" line items mapped out in the General Government chapter of the state budget from which I drew my data does not include spending by the General Fund on pension contributions for CSU employees. Hence, total spending on compensation and benefits in 2026-27 is forecast to be $51.995 billion. @DavidGCrane open.substack.com/pub/davidc…
