In races called, 17 senators are being replaced, already the biggest turnover in the chamber since 1980. The departing senators average age is 70, their replacements 55. The number of senators under 50 nearly doubles, from 8 to 15.

We actually covered this phenomenon last year: therealdeal.com/new-york/202…
A study of condo resales in Manhattan over the last few years found that:
- 1 in 3 units sold for a loss
- over HALF of those who bought from 2016 to 2020 sold for a loss
The worst housing market over the last decade is somewhere people would least expect.
Manhattan.
Values in New York County dropped by -11.9% from September 2016 to 2026, falling from 1.41M to 1.24M.
Which is an astounding -51.2% drop in inflation-adjusted terms.
Condo/co-op/townhome values inn Manhattan are now at record lows compared to incomes and rents.
Making it one of the most undervalued housing markets in America, despite it's still expensive price tag.
Values have actually started turning recently, up 3% YoY.
Meaning it could be a good time to buy in NYC.

Eliot Spitzer was just sued for alleged rent overcharges at a huge Wburg apt building.
Wrote about the law firm that's sued him, and dozens of other landlords, in the last few months. Impact could be “significant, if not catastrophic,” for these buildings, one attorney told me
Gillis is an example of separate the art (mid, offensive standup) from some of the other art (tires)
Replying to @gldivittorio
I like Shane Gillis as a comedian, I don't think he hit the tone he was going for or the punchlines this time, but he'll be fine and I'm still gonna follow his stuff. As far as the general state of comedy and ~jester's privilege~ though, I think Anthony Jeselnik nails it here:

Thank you, @NY1 for having me on to talk about how the bank and drugstore takeover of New York is ending !
Interesting to see Anthtropic employees portrayed as not knowing where a cool place to live would be
Nikki Field made a name rescuing Manhattan's toughest luxury developments. Now, the Sotheby's broker is betting on a controversial super-skinny tower with a decade of baggage and a $100M+ penthouse.

He’s outpaced everyone who was otherwise deliberately aiming to be our Joan Didion by actually becoming our Joan Didion
Spent a few weeks earlier this year roaming a Hollywood almost entirely reoriented around the production of “microdramas,” which are kind of like soap operas except they’re short and completely demented and optimized for your phone. Started as one kind of sad story and ended as another, differently sad kind of story. You can read it now in @NYTmag nytimes.com/2026/10/06/magaz…
I wish I had the werewithall to organize calls with a calendly link instead of frantically texting and calling people to say "can you talk now..please!"
honestly refreshing to read a review so off-base and misinformed
