You work for your paycheck. You should care who decides whether it gets the constitutional protections your property deserves.
That is what’s at stake in Washington’s Supreme Court elections: your money, your rights, and the limits our constitution places on government.
If the court says income is not property, it removes a constitutional barrier to income taxes. That is why these judicial races deserve your attention.
Five seats are on the November 3 ballot. Here are my endorsements, in position order:
Position 1: Scott Edwards
Position 3: David Stevens
Position 4: Sean O’Donnell
Position 5: Dave Larson
Position 7: Todd Bloom
Remember: Stevens, not Stephens. David Stevens is running for Position 3. Debra Stephens is running against Todd Bloom for Position 7.
Stephens wrote the majority opinion striking down I-2066, the voter-approved initiative protecting access to natural gas. That is another reason I want a change on this court.
Judicial elections can feel remote from everyday life. Your paycheck, your household choices, and your constitutional rights are anything but remote.

Oct. 24: Imperial Park, Sugar Land, TX.
Kiarious Hall allegedly swung a metal water bottle into a father's face.
The dad dropped, unconscious.
His lawyer says he has a fractured skull, a broken jaw, and 3 brain bleeds.
Hall allegedly swung the bottle again at a grandfather, Gary Greaser, who tried to break it up.
Hall's wife, Jazmine Hall, allegedly ran in, throwing punches.
Greaser needed 7 stitches, and suffered a broken hip.
The fight allegedly started because someone told Hall to stop cheering during the other team's at-bats.
Jazmine was an assistant principal at Lamar Junior High.
She has since resigned.
Hall claims self-defense. He said he was poked in the chest.
Police (and everyone who has seen the video) say the video doesn't show what he described.
He faces 2 misdemeanor assault counts.
She faces 1.
The victim's lawyer is pushing the DA to upgrade the charges.
A fractured skull and brain bleeds.
And it's a misdemeanor?
No. Upgrade the charges!

At a 12U girls’ softball game Saturday in Sugar Land, Texas, an argument over when parents can cheer turned violent. Kiarious Marshun Hall allegedly swung a full metal water bottle into another father’s face after being told not to cheer right before pitches, knocking him out with a fractured skull, broken jaw, and three brain bleeds.
Hall’s wife Jazmine joined the fight and injured a grandfather who tried to intervene (broken hip). Both were arrested on assault charges; she resigned as a junior-high assistant principal. Hall claimed self-defense, but video reviewed by police did not support it.

A man ICE says overstayed a tourist visa for seven years was on Washington's payroll at the Department of Children, Youth, and Families.
That's the agency that's supposed to protect our kids.
According to ICE, he flew in from Kenya in 2019 on a tourist visa and never left. They picked him up Monday on a traffic stop. He was wearing a DCYF jacket.
DCYF's answer? His paperwork 'indicated he was authorized to work.' They've had him since 2024.
This is the same agency that saw a record 57 kids die or nearly die from abuse and neglect on its watch last year.
The same agency that got sued for parking foster kids in hotels and offices, and still hasn't fixed it.
Washington checks everything except whether you're supposed to be here.
Sanctuary state. Your tax dollars. Your kids.
