Unchecked, anti-social behaviour blights our communities. But it is not inevitable and I won't accept it.
For too long, we have lacked the powers we need to deal with this problem properly. From today, that changes: authorities will be able to take tough action against these offenders.
This delivers on a commitment we made to the British people in our manifesto. And, most importantly, those who make life a misery for others will now face the consequences of their actions.

Today we’re doubling down on our commitment to tackle rough sleeping with an extra £432 million to help people off the streets.
With businesses, charities, and communities, @andyburnham and I will work together to end rough sleeping.

Ignore the misinformation.
We need to fix a small number of specific flaws that the previous government knowingly left in its Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act 2024 to ensure that the enfranchisement measures in that piece of legislation can operate as intended.
We have made clear we intend to make those fixes through our forthcoming Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill.
Once we have done so and can implement the new valuation process, it will be cheaper and easier for leaseholders to extend their lease or buy their freehold.
Good to see @UKLabour laws starting to make a real impact on the bringing down the cost of living

Some chatter on social media would have you believe that crime is out of control.
The facts tell a different story.
As @frasernelson has shown in his Substack today:
Violence is at its lowest level since the crime survey began in 1981.
Robbery is at a record low.
Crime, excluding fraud, is 78% down on its peak in 1995.
And the stats show this Government is delivering on its promises too:
Knife crime is down 11%.
Knife murders are at their lowest level in 35 years.
Thefts including phone snatching have fallen by 20% in the last year alone.
But I know there is more that we must do, and we will:
We’ve put more than 3,800 extra neighbourhood officers into roles, with named, contactable officers for every neighbourhood.
We’re introducing the most significant reforms to policing in a generation.
We are tackling rising rates of violence against women and girls through our landmark strategy.
And we are tackling crimes like fraud, more prevalent in our increasingly online world, with £250 million directed to this challenge in our Fraud Strategy published this year.

Potholes can cost drivers up to £600 in repairs.
That’s why we're fighting back with record investment:
🛣️ Nearly 7,000 miles of roads resurfaced this year
💷 £220m more for councils
📈 More prevention, fewer potholes
We're tackling the pothole plague.
We’re clamping down on noise nuisance by reminding passengers to use headphones on trains, and be considerate of others- share the carriage not the noise!

This Labour government’s transformative Renters’ Rights Act empowers private renters to challenge unreasonable rent increases.
If a tenant believes a proposed rent increase is above the open-market rent, they can refer the matter to the First-tier Tribunal.
In a recent case in Manchester where the Landlord proposed an increase in rent from £1,650 per calendar month to £1,700, the Tribunal determined the open market rent was actually £1,450 per calendar month.
We’re standing up for renters and our reforms are working.

Today I am announcing a new railway station at Bradford Interchange.
We are delivering Northern Powerhouse Rail, working in lock-step with local leaders like @MayorOfWY.
We will create a turn-up-and-go train service for the great cities of the north.🚉

Parking should be straightforward, not another everyday hassle.
Today we’re putting the brakes on rip-off parking charges - meaning drivers get a fairer deal, protections from being unfairly charged, and confidence that private parking providers are held to a higher standard.
It's yet another step forward in this government’s plan to take the stress out of everyday life and ease the pressure on people's pockets.

It's so frustrating when the actions of a few spoil your journey.
Our new campaign reminds passengers to use headphones on trains, and highlights the penalties.
And local leaders get new powers to tackle music, vaping and littering on buses.

Fines up to £100 can now be issued to people who play music or videos out loud on buses - part of a series of new powers tackling antisocial behaviour.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham has encouraged local authorities to use powers announced in August to crack down on loud music, littering, vaping and threatening behaviour on buses.

These GDP figures are welcome news.
Despite conflicts in the Middle East and Europe hitting people across the world, today’s figures offer more proof of Britain’s resilience in the face of these global shocks.
GDP grew 0.7% in the three months to August 2026, following revised growth of 0.5% in the three months to July.
Services grew (+0.9%) while production (-0.2%) and construction (-1.0%) both fell.

The most important thing for children is having a loving home - and having more brilliant foster carers could transform the lives of some of our most vulnerable young people.
Every seat in this stadium represents a child who could benefit from the stability of a loving home.
We’re launching a national campaign to help create 10,000 new foster places and give more children the chance to thrive.

Conflict in the Middle East and Europe is hitting people around the world, but the UK economy is showing strong resilience.
This week I’ll meet finance ministers in Bangkok to discuss how we limit the impact on people and businesses, provide some breathing space and drive growth
NEW:
From Bangkok, IMF World Economic Outlook released…
- Upgrades UK growth this year by 0.3% to 1.3%, joint second highest in G7, defying the idea the UK would be hardest hit by Iran war… but inflation higher and growth trimmed next year
- UK “stands out” on deficit reduction, IMF Chief economist tells me, as its figures show a 3.9% point fall in deficit from 2025-2031, significantly more than other G7 nations, with 3 of them actually increasing their deficits over this time.
- IMF says UK should “stay course” on fiscal plans, Chancellor arrives tomorrow
- overall story of resilience in world economy, despite the clouds from the Gulf, as AI boosts US, Asia and UK to some degree… energy and trade proving flexible in dealing with shocks
