My teaching philosophy, in a nutshell: #pretchat
If you are looking for me, I'll be on BlueSky, where the conversation is authentic and not curated by billionaire-serving algorithms. As Audrey Lorde said, "The master's tools will never dismantle the master's house." bsky.app/profile/msoskil.bsk…
Hire. More. People.
It’s a lack of staffing problem.
Replying to @msoskil
Thank you for letting us know what's happening. Your frustration with the long line and wait is understandable. Local management makes every attempt to staff appropriately for peak periods to avoid delays. I am so sorry for this inconvenience-Tracie
At Honolulu Airport @thriftycars @dollarcar counters. 12 counters. 9 of them are empty. Only 3 people working. On a Saturday afternoon. Line is hundreds of people deep and hours long. This is gross incompetence. Rent elsewhere.
Hey @QantasUSA and @AmericanAir - I booked a Qantas flight from SYD to HON on aa.com. The AA website tells me I have to go through Qantas to select seats. I called Qantas and they said American has to select my seats. I need to make sure I’m sitting w/ my wife.

Celebrating #TeacherAppreciationWeek by rereading Flip the System. Is public education supporting our democracy? Is our democracy supporting public ed? So many excellent chapter topics from highly qualified teachers. My copy is highlighted and dog-eared! @msoskil

Those saying politics don’t belong in schools are ignorant of how education supports democracy.
Schools must be a place where students learn who they are, what they value, & how to be subjects of their lives - and reading/math.
Ignoring politics is a political choice.

We must ask *why* some want political discussion banned from schools. What are they afraid of?
Whose power is challenged when students are empowered to engage in political issues?
No matter the answers, protecting that power comes at the expense of student empowerment.

It’s a gun shot wound. Enough already.
Here’s the Chest X-Ray of a young girl suffering from a condition that is now the #1 cause of death in children and adolescents in the U.S.
What’s the diagnosis?
Great session w/ thoughtful pre-service teachers at #SPSEA23. 1st time doing this talk - focusing on values education should be based upon, culture we need for holistic ed, our professional responsibilities, & how those ideas interact w/ rapid integration of A.I. in schools.
Spent my snow day reorganizing my office bookshelves alphabetically by author and by topic (separating out some education reference books, travel books, and sci-fi paperbacks). From Aczel to Yukteswar.
Flipping through some education books on my shelf and came across this graphic from ‘The Triple Focus’ by Daniel Goldman and Peter Senge.
Positive change cannot happen in a trust vacuum. It’s past time we #FlipTheSystem.
If you are crafting education policy, and you aren’t getting consistent feedback from current classroom teachers in multiple grade levels and in rural, urban and suburban settings, then what you are really creating is unintended consequences for our students and communities.
In the US we spend $54 per student on STEM & $0.05 per student on civics. We have a society that cant have rational policy discussions & sees violence as a political tool. Maybe being hyperfocused on developing human capital & good workers for the economy in schools isn’t ideal.
