It has been a few weeks since the new traffic signal on U.S. 41 northbound at Retta Esplanade officially became operational. This marks one of several key traffic pattern improvements brought to downtown Punta Gorda to enhance safety and mobility. Read more...
• Generates efficiency and lane continuity
Now, there is increased mobility with support for pedestrian and bicycle activity.
• Brand new, dedicated bike lanes along the corridor
• Sidewalk improvements to enhance downtown environment and access to businesses
• Coordinates with the new roundabout; through lanes will be shifted so drivers no longer have to switch lanes to drive through Downtown Punta Gorda.
• Predictable driver behavior
• Less driver weaving and side-swipe crashes
As the project nears completion, U.S. 41 northbound now includes dedicated turn lanes throughout the corridor.
How does this benefit the corridor?
Before this project began, the previous configuration required drivers to change lanes to drive through Downtown Punta Gorda. The old configuration decreased the desired interconnectivity of downtown Punta Gorda and increased conflict points for bicyclists and pedestrians.
🚨 Flood Update: SR 29 in Glades County & SR 78 in Okeechobee County are BOTH REOPENED! 🚗💨
U.S. 27 in Glades: Both NB lanes are open, and 1 SB lane is open. Drive carefully! 🛣️⚠️

DYK: Over the last year alone, Road Rangers provided nearly half a million assists to motorists in need across the state? Their work includes tasks like clearing debris, jump-starting vehicles, and helping stranded motorists to safety.
Their role often places them at risk while working near fast-moving traffic, but you can count on them and other crash responders to answer the call.
