New York retailers: Metrc added an optional Merge Packages tool for Retail ID, effective Nov 2, 2026. What it does: It combines two active packages from the same original source package label into one. Retail ID is the QR code tied to a package. The merge is recorded in both packages' history. What's required: * Both packages need Retail ID QR codes * Product type must match * Unit of measure must match If any of these differ, the merge is blocked. If your POS connects to Metrc: Metrc says to confirm your provider supports the merge endpoint before you use it. metrc.com/wp-content/uploads…

Massachusetts votes on Question 8 on Nov 3. Here's what it does, per the state's official voter guide. Yes: repeals the laws that legalize, regulate and tax adult-use (recreational) marijuana, effective Jan 1, 2028. That covers adult-use licenses broadly, not just stores. Medical stays legal, and the CCC, the state regulator, would oversee only medical. Current adult-use licensees could apply on an expedited basis to become medical dispensaries and sell remaining inventory to them. No: no change to current law. For operators: if it passes, the repeal wouldn't take effect until Jan 1, 2028. sec.state.ma.us/divisions/el…

New Jersey S4287 would make running an unlicensed cannabis store a third-degree crime. Businesses would face fines of $100,000 to $250,000, and more than two violations in two years would make a shop a public nuisance that its town can restrict or close. It cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee 11-0 on Oct 15. Next is Senate Budget and Appropriations, then the full Senate, the Assembly and the governor. It's still a bill. Enforcement is one side. Access is the other. Of New Jersey's 564 municipalities, 176 allow adult-use (recreational) retail, according to the CRC's opt-in table. That leaves 388 towns without a storefront option, and licensed retailers say unlicensed shops often set up in those gaps. njleg.state.nj.us/bill-searc…

New York has a rule for dispensaries that pay their suppliers late. If a store doesn't pay for a delivery on credit, the supplier can report it to OCM, the state cannabis office. Stores that get reported can land on a cash-on-delivery list. Once a store is on that list, it has to pay in full when product arrives, with no credit terms. Thursday, Oct 22 is the deadline to report late payments on deliveries made before Sep 15 through OCM's platform. For deliveries since Sep 15, reports go through Metrc, the state's tracking system. For suppliers, this is the last chance to flag old unpaid invoices. For stores, it's a reason to check that every older invoice is settled, since losing credit terms changes how you buy inventory. cannabis.ny.gov/system/files…

Michigan dispensaries: starting Oct 28, you can't add or edit expiration dates in Metrc, the state's seed-to-sale tracking system. If your POS writes those dates for you today, check with your provider before then. metrc.com/wp-content/uploads…

Minnesota shops: Metrc, the state system every sale gets reported to, is changing every facility type Dec 28 and every license number Jan 18. On both days, sales can't be recorded until your POS reconnects. OCM's webinar on it is Oct 29. metrc.com/wp-content/uploads…

Last November, Congress rewrote the federal definition of hemp. It was set to start Nov 12. A September funding bill moved most of it to Dec 11. The new rule measures total THC, including THCA, instead of delta-9 alone. Finished hemp products can't have more than 0.4 mg of total THC per container. Cannabinoids made outside the plant are out. Nov 12 still applies to products with cannabinoids the plant can't make. Those become marijuana under federal law that day. The rest waits until Dec 11. The law gave FDA 90 days to publish a list of which cannabinoids count as natural. Eleven months later, there's no list. Bills to delay it two more years or repeal it are sitting in Congress. None has passed. congress.gov/crs-product

This Sacramento cannabis dispensary says its products are taxed at a RIDICULOUS 38% rate and is demanding an audit of the money. We looked into it ourselves and found that $350 million meant for substance abuse programs instead went to Democrat voter machines! ENOUGH with the fraud. ENOUGH with crushing small business.

Most states let adult-use shops put a sale on the online menu. Massachusetts doesn't. Sale, Discount, Special, and strike-through prices can still get you cited, and the CCC published a reminder. masscannabiscontrol.com/2026…

You'll hear that terpenes create an "entourage effect" by acting on CB1 and CB2 receptors. A 2020 lab study tested five common terpenes, alone and mixed, and found no effect at either receptor. The entourage question is still open. frontiersin.org/journals/pha…

New in California: if a customer asks for the COA, the store has to hand it over. AB 1965 starts Jan 1. AB 1965 adds this to Business and Professions Code 26070(l): "A retailer and any other licensee authorized to engage in the retail sale of cannabis or cannabis products shall provide the certificate of analysis associated with any cannabis or cannabis product held or offered for retail sale to a customer upon request of the customer or the department." legiscan.com/CA/text/AB1965/…

NY operators: COD delinquencies now report through Metrc. At the Sep 10 CAB, OCM said 87 retailers (about 12%) are on the list, roughly $3.89M owed to suppliers (avg about $45k, about 281 days late). Worth checking your Metrc COD status before it becomes an audit surprise. mjbizdaily.com/news/new-york…
