This year's career fair was a great success!
Merrill College welcomed 25 organizations to chat with our #merrillmade Terps about job opportunities and internships experiences. It was wonderful to see so many of our students take advantage of this opportunity to network and make professional connections!
Thank you to Karen Denny, our director of internships and career development who organized the event, and everyone who made the career fair a roaring success! #fearlessjournalism
SO HAPPY for the #merrillmade students, faculty and staff from our Howard Center for Investigative Journalism who were honored at last week's Edward R. Murrow Awards celebration!
Our Howard Center won its second Murrow Award, and first for investigative journalism, for “Off the Rails,” which explored safety regulatory gaps in the North American rail industry. It was a special night to recognize this innovative collaboration — which included NPR, CBC, our Capital News Service, ASU's Howard Center, the University of British Columbia’s Global Reporting Centre, Evident Media and The Narwhal. Congratulations to all!

Thanks to @dipaularose & @TerpsWBB for having our @merrillcollege #JOUR368A out at practice Friday!
Great experience for our students to have the chance to practice sit down interviews with student athletes.
Merrill College is home to many student media organizations in which UMD students get valuable experience in journalism, sports, media and more!
UMD's student media organizations recently gathered in Knight Hall during our annual Merrill Student Media Fair. They spoke to fellow students about the work, events and missions of their campus organizations.

THANK YOU to Mike and Karen Weissel, parents of #merrillmade alum Brendan ’26 and fellow Terp Brad ’20, for launching an endowment of #UMD's Testudo Mascot Program! Brendan and Brad are both proud former Testudos.
Funds earned from the endowment can pay for additional Testudo suits and mascot training camps, among other program needs. The new gift follows the Weissels' earlier donation to design and buy new heads for Testudo.
Incredible generosity to support the symbol of the University of Maryland! #fearlessjournalism

Check out this @CNN segment featuring #merrillmade student Cat Murphy speaking with @jaketapper. #fearlessjournalism
'It's been a lot. But I was focused on doing my job and asking my questions that I wanted answers to.' Student journalist Cat Murphy joins @jaketapper to respond after GOP Rep. Andy Harris threatened to have her prosecuted for recording his answers during a news conference.
Merrill College students know their rights as journalists.
"Cat Murphy is a master's student at the University of Maryland, credentialed as a reporter for our Capital News Service and doing the job we teach our students to do. Cat recorded openly in a public space alongside other news outlets, and that is her legal right," Dean Rafael Lorente (@DeanLorente) said. "I'm proud of how she handled herself in a difficult situation."
