Now, meet one of the engineers behind it: bit.ly/4z5H9YA For more than 14 years, Christopher Craddock has helped NS modernize how we map, measure and understand our network. A licensed land surveyor and Senior Field Validation Engineer, he's spent his career supporting everything from Positive Train Control validation to large-scale mapping projects across the railroad. Today, he helps lead our drone and aerial data collection efforts, transforming complex data into insights that support teams across the network. Using LiDAR-equipped drones, our teams collect millions of data points that help create highly detailed 3D maps of the railroad. The data is collected using LiDAR drones and mobile vehicles across our network. This technology gives our railroaders a clearer view of the network, so they can plan better, work smarter, and operate more safely.

Throughout the quarter, we remained focused on safely serving customers, improving operational performance, while maintaining disciplined cost control despite rising fuel costs. Demand for rail service increased during the quarter, as a tighter trucking market highlighted rail's competitive advantages and underscored the opportunity for a more efficient, capacity-enhanced freight network. We remain focused on investing in a stronger, more resilient rail network that can support growth we see on the horizon.”

This week, Team NS joined federal, state and local leaders to mark an important milestone for R.E.D.E.S.I.G.N. Alabama, a partnership designed to reduce blocked crossings, improve safety and strengthen connectivity across Birmingham, Trussville and surrounding communities: bit.ly/4jtUTHO The project includes planned grade separations, new pedestrian and vehicle underpasses, and expanded train storage capacity near Norris Yard to help keep freight safely moving while improving access for local residents. As VP of Transportation Rodney Moore shared, "R.E.D.E.S.I.G.N. Alabama demonstrates what's possible when communities and the railroad collaborate to solve long-standing challenges and engage the right government resources to fund a solution. This investment will enhance safety, improve quality of life, strengthen supply chain connectivity and help ensure that Birmingham continues to thrive as an important rail and economic hub for decades to come."

In 2023, I was proud to help secure $8 million in federal funding for this project! This marks a major step forward in addressing blocked railroad crossings in our communities!
