Our supporters were arrested at Mpumudde Police Patrol Roadblock as they were coming from the burial. Whoever was heading toward Nakawuka and had anything red on him was arrested. Taxis, bodabodas were stopped and people removed. The alleged offence is assault of an MP.

We have lost one of our own, Mzee Saava George. Wumula mirembe, mukwano gwaffe. Thank you for your great contribution towards the cause for a better country.
A somber evening it has been at our headquarters as we gathered to pay our final tributes to our fallen comrade, Hon. Matovu Charles. Many leaders and comrades eulogized the deceased former Busiro South MP as a selfless leader who dedicated all his time and effort towards redeeming our country from bad leadership. Due to his courage, he was severally arrested and brutalized for standing up for what is right and just. We continue to extend our deepest sympathies with the family, friends and all comrades for losing such a dedicated leader. May his soul rest in power!

This happened on the night of December 24th 2025 on the eve of Christmas. Hon. Matovu and his colleagues were badly assaulted by soldiers. For him in particular, they hit him on the head. One can only hope that this wasn't a precursor to the challenges that led to his abrupt and untimely death!
Hon. Charles Matovu, the Busiro South Constituency MP under @NUP_Ug, was attacked last night, alongside close to twenty members of his campaign team. As they returned from a campaign event, they were waylaid by soldiers who whipped them for several hours - asking them why they're promoting NUP and its leader Bobi Wine in that area. They were insulted, assaulted, and robbed by men in uniform! We've checked on them at Mengo Hospital, where they're receiving treatment. They're in great pain. Hopefully, in 21 days, the people of Uganda will speak with one voice and bring this nightmare to an end.

Here is the tentative program for the send off of Hon. Charles Matovu. Join us today at the National Unity Platform Headquarters as we pray for his soul and salute him for his great contribution towards the cause for a better country.
Deeply heartbreaking!
Just received very disturbing news concerning the abrupt passing of our brother, comrade and fellow leader, Hon. Charles Matovu, who served as Member of Parliament for Busiro South in the last Parliamentary term and had his victory robbed on gunpoint in the January election. Very shocking news!May God strengthen all of us.
Yesterday at our headquarters, we addressed the nation on a wide range of issues prevailing in the country. Our leadership welcomed comrades Gaddafi Mugumya and Grace Wakabi Smart who have just returned from prison on court bail after braving nearly two years under incarceration at Kitalya on trumped up charges of aggravated robbery. They were able to narrate their ordeal and expressed gratitude to the public for standing with them. We continue to call for the release of our other comrades facing persecution for their political beliefs, including those being held illegally and incommunicado by state operatives manning safe houses.
On the issue of fundraising for the party as being suggested by comrades and our supporters, the party leadership will internally debate on that proposal and come up with a conclusive resolution that shall be communicated to the public. This is one of the options being considered by our supporters in light of the prevailing exclusion from the constitutional funding that the NUP is entitled to receive as a registered political organization with legislative representation.

We are proud to congratulate Nattabi Margaret, Mariam Balunga, and Innocent Nassasira upon successfully graduating from the Program for Young Politicians in Africa (PYPA), 2026, a leadership development journey that ran from May through October 2026.
Throughout the program, our representatives gained valuable knowledge and skills in leadership, democratic governance, strategic planning, public speaking, conflict resolution, and youth participation in politics.
We are proud of their commitment to learning, growth, and service. We trust they will put these lessons into practice to strengthen youth leadership, promote accountability, and contribute to inclusive and democratic governance.
Congratulations, comrades! Your growth is an investment in the future of our party and our nation. 🇺🇬✊🏾
