I really wish I'd made a note on why I added Hyperpolitics by Anton Jäger to my reading list, as this book is pretty far from my "normal" reading.
A short (128 pages) interesting analysis of the four major phases in politics from 1910 until now.

"Which user is causing all these Firestore reads?"
Turns out you *can* answer that:
- *without* extra code in your clients
- *with* audit logs and two SQL queries

Our nearest neighborhood pub suddenly closed on Labor day, and hasn't reopened since.
Yet somehow, Google Maps claims that it's "Busier than usual" right now. 🤷
From Sir Terry Pratchett's book Hogfather:
> The page started to stand up, drawing his sword.
> ...
> 'Oh, no, he's going too far again...' muttered Albert under his breath.
> He pushed the page down again.
> 'No, you stay still, sonny. Else you'll just be a paragraph”
*Pride and Pistons* is the fourth and final book in the *Mutants and Modifieds* series, which reimagines classic fairytales in a steampunk setting.
There are still some fun new ideas, but it's clear that the series has run its course. 3/5 ⭐

Watch out folks, there's a new heart in town!
Well OK, it's not new - but 2018's Outerlands heart by Gina Teichert can now be found on the south-west corner of Union Square.

Scraping the HTML until that gets walled off too. Feels like every service is slowly closing the side doors. Hope Hardcover or someone keeps a real feed alive.
I really liked Terry Pratchett's early Victorian historical fantasy in Dodger. Stephen Briggs' narration was great as ever, although that some of the London police force sergeants sounded suspiciously like Nobby Nobbs 😊.

📕🏴☠️I've recently wondered multiple times: "How did this book make it onto my reading list?" Jacqueline Firkins' Philippa Flynn's Year of Panic and Piracy was one such case. Turns out it was included for free with Amazon Prime.★★★☆☆

It seems that GoodReads just (pretty quietly) killed its publicly readable RSS feeds. So I can't scrape my content from their platform anymore. 🤬
And here I was, thinking that being Amazon-owned didn't necessarily mean that you had to enshittify it. 💩

If you want to know how not AI pilled the core Zig community still is: Ziggit is having a tab vs spaces debate.
In Hyperpolitics, Jäger looks at four historical phases: mass politics, post-politics, anti-politics, and hyperpolitics.
I found it fascinating to read his analysis of each historical political phase and his take on the causes of the transitions.

C.I. Chevron's *Mutants and Modifieds* series reimagines classic fairy tales in a steampunk setting, in a late 19th-century London filled with mechanical inventions, airships, and genetically altered humans, such as vampires and werewolves.

*Pride and Pistons* is the fourth and final book in the series, about wheelchair-bound Rosalind, a former royal who commands an organization policing dangerous mutants, while her former lover leads a rival organization that protects those same people.

I liked the first book for its world-building, but the later books focused more on romance. *Pride and Pistons* does the same. While there are still some fun new ideas, it's quite clear that the series has run its course.
