We are not the experts when it comes to your business and aren’t going to tell you how to work, but we hope that this workshop will give some ideas and techniques that may be useful when doing s*x work. You can email [email protected] to organise one.
Do you have experience checking a client as a sex worker?
We want to hear from you!
We are holding a consultation where you can share your thoughts regarding checking clients for STIs.
The consultation will be held online on Thursday 26 November, 2-3pm.
You will be compensated with a small payment for your time and contribution.
This is a sex worker only event.
Please email [email protected] to register.

What is Respect Inc's mission?
We are Queensland s*x workers voicing our need for human, industrial, and workplace rights for all s*x workers. We aim to improve the lives of s*x workers by eliminating stigma and discrimination via social, legislative, and political change.
Just want to have a cuppa and talk to someone? Pop into one of our offices, our peer educators are here to offer support if you need it 😊
Gonorrhoea is a common s*xually transmissable infection (STI) that can be cured with antibiotics.
If not treated properly, it can lead to pelvic inflammatory diseases, which can result in chronic pelvic pain, infertility, and ectopic pregnancy.
If you have gonorrhea, you may not experience any symptoms, but you may also notice:
- pain when urinating
- discharge, or a change in discharge
- bleeding or spotting between periods
- pain during or after s*x
- cramping pain in the lower abdomen
- a sore, dry throat
- pain or discharge from the anus
- discomfort or irritation in your genitals.
Condoms are the best way to prevent gonorrhea. The only way to know that you do not have an infection is to get a s*xual health check.
S*x workers can receive free testing at Crimson Plus, a SW only clinic run by Respect Inc. Respect Inc may also be able to help you find a SW friendly clinic near you. You can contact [email protected] to find out more.
Have a look inside our Meanjin (Brisbane) office! You are welcome to drop by Monday-Thursday 12-5pm. It is a s*x worker only space and we are here if you need support or just someone to chat to.
With the weather heating up in Queensland, don't forget to make sure your condoms are kept in a cool place and away from the heat 🥵
Not only do we create our own resources at Respect Inc, we also have plenty of resources from other organisations that may be helpful for you. Feel free to drop by one of our offices to have a look 🙂
Did you know that WHS laws require the training and supply (free of charge) of c*ndoms, lubricant, and other PPE by businesses? If you would like more information, or just want to talk to a peer educator about something, you can always contact Respect Inc.
October is S*xual Violence Awareness Month.
All forms of violence, including s*xual violence, can happen to and impact s*x workers, just as they can everyone else.
S*x work is stigmatised and there is a clear link between stigma and violence. Respect Inc is a peer organisation and we can provide support to s*x workers in QLD who have experienced s*xual violence, whether the violence occurred while doing s*x work or not.
We can provide emotional support, facilitate connection with other services, explore options for taking action and be alongside you through the process.
We also have resources available on understanding s*xual assault as a s*x worker, reporting s*xual assault as well as information on non-payment and stealthing. Resources are available in English, Chinese, Korean and Thai.

In QLD, all s*x workers and s*x work businesses are covered by work health and safety legislation.
A workplace includes any place where a worker goes or is likely to be while at work. In s*x work, this means any place where s*x workers work.
The person who manages or controls a workplace must ensure that the workplace does not risk the health and safety of any person.
Workplaces should encourage s*x workers to report injuries, and any health and safety hazards.
They should also encourage any suggestions for improvement. This can allow workplaces to reduce the prospect of incidents occurring.
S*x workers can report WHS issues (including non-compliance with a WHS requirement or a health and safety risk) directly to WHSQ, or anonymously via Respect Inc.
You can contact us for more information about your rights and responsibilities, and we can also help you report a WHS issue in your workplace.
Here's Yasmin, one of our peer educators at Meanjin (Brisbane), chatting about the Respect Inc career development program. Contact [email protected] if you would like to find out more.
Are you a s*x worker in Meanjin (Brisbane) and looking for something new to read?
We have some books available for you to take home (or swap)!
Feel free to drop by Mondays to Thursdays 12-5pm 🙂
In 1979 Carol Leigh coined the term “s*x work,” to push back against prohibitionist feminists who were using the derogatory and disempowering phrase “pr*stituted women.” It has since become a cornerstone in the fight for the rights and dignity of s*x workers all over the world.
S*x work is decriminalised in QLD, but there may be situations where you have to deal with the police, courts, or immigration systems.
If you can, try to stay calm. Being questioned or arrested can be overwhelming, but staying calm can help prevent the situation from escalating or getting worse.
Know that you only need to tell the police your name, address, and date of birth. You do not have to answer any other questions if you don’t want to.
If police come to your home and ask you to come to the station, ask them if you’re under arrest. If you are not under arrest, you don’t have to go.
If you are arrested, the police must tell you what offence you are charged with, and they will usually give you a paper slip with details, including your court date. Make sure to keep this and your QP number.
Depending on your situation, you may want to talk to a specialised lawyer.
You can contact Respect to learn about your options, or speak to a peer educator if you just want to talk about what happened.
Did you know that we have translated versions of Respect Inc resources?
They're available in Thai, Korean, and Simplified Chinese.
Drop by one of our offices to pick some up 😊
S*x workers can raise concerns about safety issues with Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ). These concerns may include:
- A risk to the health and safety of persons arising from the business or undertaking, and
- A suspected non-compliance with a WHS or electrical safety regulatory requirement.
Once a concern is raised, WHSQ will then assess what action to take in response to this request. Concerns can be raised anonymously.
If you want to make a WHSQ report and would like some help, a Respect Inc peer educator can assist you with this.
