Indiana is one of only two states that don't allow the media to witness executions.
The other is Wyoming, which has not carried out an execution in three decades.
Indiana has now carried out four in the last two years.
One regret this last legislative session was not getting our death penalty transparency language passed.
If we firmly believe in the death penalty as a means of carrying out justice for the worst offenders - which, in case I haven’t been clear, I do - then we should have zero problem letting reporters observe and ensure it’s done lawfully.
Media outlets shouldn’t have to sue our state to do this, it’s common sense and already the law in nearly every other state that has the death penalty
