Engineering, sales and legal have each picked up AI that speeds up their work. The leadership team, where the decisions get made, still follows its own work by memory.
On Monday our CEO, Larry Augustin, published Decision to Done: Leadership Is Next, the argument behind Brief.
You don't vibe-code a scalable, secure, maintainable product that millions can rely upon.
When someone says they vibe coded their own CRM over a weekend, I believe the part about the weekend. I spent years running SugarCRM. With a CRM, the hard part starts on Monday.
A weekend build shows the software can work once, with inputs the builder expected. The company needs it working in month six, when a login token expires, the builder is on vacation, and a customer asks who can see their data.
Fred Brooks estimated in 1975 that a program anybody can run, repair, and connect to other systems costs nine times as much as one that runs for its author. Vibe coding made the author's version nearly free. The other eight-ninths of the bill comes due later.
New Relic commissioned a 2026 survey of 200 US technology leaders. In code review, 94% rated AI-generated code higher quality than code people wrote. Over the prior six months, 82% reported at least one production failure tied to AI-generated code.
A vibe-coded CRM has exactly one throat to choke, and it belongs to whoever wrote the prompts. When that person moves on, the company's customer records have no owner.
I run about 20 AI agents. They're baling wire. The connection that tells my system I've sent an email quietly died more than a month before a watchdog agent noticed.
Making my fleet a real application would take error reporting, security, compliance, and everything else a business depends on.
An application is a promise that someone will still be there to fix it in month six.

Brief is live on Product Hunt today.
We built it for a moment every leader knows. You decide something on Monday, hand out the work, and find out weeks later whether any of it happened. Nobody dropped it on purpose. The commitment went quiet, and nothing was watching it.
When the work goes quiet after the meeting, it is not a people problem. It is that nobody's system owns the follow-through.
Brief on Product Hunt: go.trybrief.ai/c-88-x
I changed the question I open with, and the conversations got better immediately.
I used to ask executives what was slowing them down. It is a reasonable question and it produces nothing.
That pause is what I listen for now. I did not get to it by asking about pain. I got to it by asking someone to check.
If you sell to executives, stop asking what is hard. Ask them to look something up in front of you.
The question that gets the pause is the one we built Brief around: what did you decide, and is it still moving? We are working with a small group of leadership teams as design partners. Send me a message, or follow along every Tuesday: go.trybrief.ai/c-85-x

Every leadership team makes more decisions in a week than any one person can carry.
The decision gets made. The room agrees. Someone writes it down, or they don't.
On the latest PROMPT This, Clint and Greg look back at the journey so far highlighting key takeaways, surprising insights, and the practical lessons that have emerged from experimenting with AI in business.
