Really good summary. Some positive changes there to spur on innovation and investment in Canada!
BDC employees at @SAASNORTH audibly gasped when they learned about the future of #CDNtech's most important Crown corporation. #Budget2026 was a crazy day. @BetaKit has 3,500 words on everything you need to know. betakit.com/whats-in-budget-…

An excellent betakit publication. What an amazing time to be an entrepreneur in Canada given these changes. I also agree with the merger of EDC and BDC. In my recent experience with both, it’s blurry trying to understand their separation of roles. All great services and people, but having them under one banner makes sense from my user perspective.

For a budget that was more of a refinement of last year's massive spending commitments/investments, #Budget2026 is not without surprises. @BetaKit has you covered with what #CDNtech needs to know; reactions + breakout stories to follow. betakit.com/whats-in-budget-…

Thank you to ecommerce baddie @noorazrieh97 for asking me on to talk about an important policy shift that isn't getting the nuanced attention it deserves.

I'm (of course) talking about Eurovision. Let Mark Carney know your voice will be heard: Angine de Poitrine or we riot!

On my way to see what this budget “about entrepreneurs” is all about.

We noted this in our newsletter this week. If you're surprised by what the Feds are doing, you haven't been paying enough attention to what they've been saying. Don't make me tap the sign! #CDNtech #CDNpoli

Wild that Y2K went smoother than western Canada’s foray into permanent daylight saving time.

Why is a political reporter giving gambling guidance?
Honestly, the best bargain on the board at the moment might be the GOP side of the presidency (not anything 2026 related). Could end up being right at the end, but that’s a number I expect to move a lot over the next 6-12 months.

What if we redid the 2008 housing crisis but with assets that depreciate to zero after a few years?
🦔Moody’s says AI borrowing has become a major source of growth for private credit, and it sees a problem coming. A wave of these loans comes due between 2027 and 2029, and weaker borrowers will have to refinance at higher rates. About 17% of the 607 companies Moody’s tracks already pay part of their interest with more debt instead of cash. My Take With payment-in-kind, a company that can’t spare cash for its interest bill gets the lender to add the interest to the loan instead. That buys time. The debt grows every quarter while everyone waits for business to improve before the loan comes due. With about one in six borrowers already on it before the big maturity wave even starts, I don’t love the odds for 2028. Moody’s also used the word “circular,” and rating agencies usually show up late to that kind of call. Nvidia alone has put up to $164.5 billion behind its own customers’ data centers, so when one piece of this chain breaks, the lenders and the chip suppliers take the hit together. Expect private credit funds to push maturities out and keep these loans marked near full value as long as they can. If you own one of the private credit funds that cap withdrawals, the value on your statement depends on those marks. Hedgie🤗
