Damn, I'm on the max $200 Grokbot plan, routing heavy work to Claude / Codex, optimized my routines, & still got fucked by the recent usage nerfs.
Gonna test some alternatives this weekend to see if anything's comparable.
Which protocols paid holders the most since 2021?
4 different ones held #1, then @HyperliquidX took it in July 2025 and pulled away.
It has paid holders $1.39B, more than @aeroxyz and @Pumpfun combined.
In an era of bs, I feel safest holding tokens that make money & pay me.
Hackers have stolen $8.68B from crypto this year, and the hacks keep getting bigger.
April: $295M
September: $387M
October: $6.36B
This isn't a good trend.
Hackers have the attacker’s advantage.
To rob a crypto protocol, they only need 1 unlocked door. The company has to lock every door (code, laptops, wallet keys), every day..forever.
Now AI finds those weaknesses faster than ever. That makes me nervous about crypto.
Almost all of the S&P's gains since 1993 happened while the market was closed.
SPY overnight: +1,100%.
During trading hours: +27%.
What if you could own ONLY the profitable, overnight half? It might be happening soon.
That's the first of my top 8 reads this week:
Do Buybacks Work?
Tulip King's case for buybacks. They work in TradFi. And since token holders have no legal rights, he says buybacks are needed for alignment.
If you pick tokens based on buybacks, read the replies too. There are great counter-arguments in there.
I so desperately want to end the psyop that buybacks don't work:
1. Mechanically speaking, buybacks make the price go up
2. Crypto is not TradFi, there is a different social contract
> The Mechanical Value of Buybacks
First there's a large number of studies that confirm basic intuitions:
* Market Underreaction to Open Market Share Repurchases NBER (1995) - Buybacks create long term value, especially for underpriced stocks
* The Nature and Persistence of Buyback Anomalies (2009) - Reaffirms buybacks create persistent abnormal positive returns. They have an especially positive effect smoothing over price dips when the market overreacts to bad new
* Actual Share Repurchases, Price Efficiency, and the Information Content of Stock Prices (2017) - Reaffirms the findings of the 2009 paper. Buybacks improve pricing efficiency, liquidity, and are especially positive during market declines
* Pavilion Global Markets Buybacks Drive S&P 500 Returns (2023) - Buybacks can drive up to 43% of the returns in a single stock
tldr: buybacks make the number go up. obviously they work better when your stock is at a lower p/e because of under appreciation or market downturns unrelated to the core business, but nonetheless they are positive on the stock
THIS SHOULD BE REALLY OBVIOUS, you don't even need to read any of the papers above to understand the basic intuitions of why they work:
* Price is a function of supply and demand. When buybacks take supply off the market, price goes up all else held equal
* When shares get taken off the market, the shares you hold represent a larger share of the business meaning you benefit from EPS growth even if revenue isn't growing (let alone if it is)
* Businesses providing constant single sided buys on their own shares has a smoothing effect on liquidity making deeps shallower and setting higher price floors in the long run (more shares are repurchased on a fixed buying program when price is lower)
Some specific examples:
* about 51% of Apple's EPS growth is credited to their legendary buyback program retiring so many outstanding shares
* Autozone has bought back like 90% of their shares - the stock has had double the annualized returns of the SP for the last 2 decades
* Home Depot is similar to Autozone
What crypto people get uncomfortable is that buybacks take a long time to compound. This is totally fine in the stock market where there's many businesses you can forecast out in to the future for a decade+. In crypto I understand this rightfully makes people nervous
One prime example of this would be PONS. It kinda doesn't matter how much %of supply was bought back by PONS if their business never recovers. The entire trade/business may end up being too much a flash-in-the-pan for the long term effect of buybacks to have compounded
But we're now seeing a few crypto businesses start to cross the chasm into multi-cycle success stories. We can & should expect the businesses to implement long durable buyback programs that will compound excess positive returns for the years to come
> The importance of buybacks in crypto
I don't know if any of you noticed this, but you have no legal protections as token holders. It's also not even on any government roadmap to fix this
Regulators are just now getting around to setting some guidelines for crypto projects to not get sued - but even then, none of those guidelines relate to you. You do not have voting rights. You do not have legal recourse. In fact most times you don't even own equity in the underlying businesses which actually collect the revenues
IF token holders had legal rights. IF I could sue Compound or Aave for what they've done to token holders, I'd be far more sympathetic to the argument that teams should wait for buybacks. At the end of the day, I know I'd be able to pursue legal recourse & pressure with like minded token holders to force them to return capital when the time is right
Unfortunately, you have none of these abilities. You have nothing but the promises of the team. IN FACT, a team that likely ran a points program or other to WIN YOUR BUSINESS by trading some of their equity. I'd argue they have a moral responsibility to you to show they're aligned in the long term with you even in the lack of regulatory requirements

Damn.
Everyone's scared right now.
That's usually when the next cycle's biggest winners are sitting there cheap.
By the time ppl start shilling again, most of the move is already gone.
Here are the 5 narratives I'm watching before the markets pump:
1. AI Inference
Every time someone uses Claude or an AI agent, somebody pays for the computing power behind it. That's inference.
As agents do more work on their own, that bill keeps getting bigger.
Some crypto projects already let people buy or access that compute through their tokens.
I'd check two things. Are there real paying customers? And does that demand actually flow back to the token?
• $VVV $ORBIO
2. Proof of Useful Work / AI Compute
Bitcoin miners burn a huge amount of computing power just to secure the network.
Pearl and Nockchain are betting the same kind of hardware can do useful work (AI models, ZK proofs) and still earn rewards.
Bittensor goes broader and pays people for useful AI contributions.
The catch is that a network can have thousands of GPUs running with nobody actually paying to use them.
So the number I care about is revenue from real customers vs rewards paid by printing new tokens.
• $PEARL $NOCK $TAO
3. Privacy
Right now anyone can look up a wallet and see the savings in it and every payment it's ever made.
Businesses and AI agents aren't gonna move serious money on rails like that.
Zcash and Monero already do private payments. Newer projects are building private apps and smart contracts.
The obvious risk is regulators. Honestly, I don't have a clean answer to that one.
So I'd trust usage over headlines. That means growth in private transactions and apps that really need privacy to work.
• $ZEC $XMR $NIGHT
4. Quantum Resistance
Quantum computers may one day break the cryptography that protects most crypto wallets. And you can't upgrade a whole blockchain overnight.
The interesting part is that networks are already taking different routes.
NEAR added quantum-safe signatures (ML-DSA) to mainnet in July.
Starknet is aiming to be fully quantum resistant by 2027.
Quantus launched in September with quantum-resistant signatures from day one.
I'm honestly not sure on timing here. So I'd only care which upgrades are actually live, and whether any of it creates demand for the token.
• $QTC $NEAR $STRK
5. Revenue & Buybacks
The part most people still skip is doing the math after dilution.
Say a project buys back $10M while unlocking $50M in new tokens. It's still putting more on the market than it's taking off.
So I'd look at how much revenue actually reaches the token after unlocks and emissions.
• $HYPE $UNI $PUMP
I wouldn't buy all five today.
I'd build a watchlist with 2 or 3 projects per sector and check those numbers once a month.
The setup I want is the number getting better while the price hasn't caught up yet.
That gap is usually widest when everyone's scared... like right now.
The narrative gets a coin on your watchlist. The numbers tell you when to buy.
Which of these five do you think the market is still sleeping on?
As a millennial, probably the most exciting yet disruptive time of our lives.
It's not rich vs. the poor, it'll be A.I. leverage vs non - a.i. leveraged. Feels like Crypto 2020 where you every minute away from the screen = losing opportunity.
Lock in for your bloodline.
Feel like this decade should be called 'The Great Unraveling' or something like that..
Everywhere you look, things are just getting way more fluid and less stable and just way less certain...
- Will you still have your job in 2 years? Uncertain...
- What jobs will still exist in the future anyway? Uncertain...
- What industries will thrive? Uncertain...
- Should you buy an existing business? Probably not... too uncertain...
- Should you go back to school or training for a new career? Probably not... too uncertain...
- Will the stock market keep going up forever? Uncertain... is primarily political at this point based on the Fed and Treasury and 401k inflows and etc...
- Will residential real estate have another collapse? Uncertain... all depends on interest rates, so far it hasn't but there has to be a breaking point somewhere...
- Should you move into the good school district so your kids can go the best schools? Uncertain... AI is disrupting the entire education system just as fast as it is everything else...
- Will your safe, first world country still be a safe first would country in 20 years? Uncertain... you get the wrong leaders and it could speedrun civilizational suicide like many other western countries have lately...
- Can you reject the traditional financial system and bet it all on Bitcoin? Sure... but even that is less certain now due to fears over quantum...
Indeed... even the long-term future of our species is increasingly brought into question... due to the global fertility crisis and microplastics and etc...
So yeah...
Obviously uncertainty has always been a part of life...
However compared to 5 years ago or 10 years ago or 20 years ago or 50 years ago... it just seems like things have gotten WAY WAY more fluid...
Mostly this is because of AI...
But partly it is just the blow off top in the sovereign debt bubble, which makes all economic questions primarily political... since everything just depends on the money printer vs austerity-larp seesaw...
But yeah...
Not sure what the solution is, but I think the best thing to do is just create a really good foundation, and stay lean...
Get healthy, get locked-in, keep geeking out on everything new and exciting...
Get your living expenses as low as possible relative to your assets (notice I said ASSETS and not INCOME - again, issa new world)...
And just keep putting in the reps and trying to set yourself up for success...
The flip side of chaos is opportunity, and you owe it to yourself, and your family, and your people to try to thrive amidst the insanity :)
