Women are often at the forefront of conservation and environmental protection efforts.
A recent @UNEP report highlights the need to promote gender equality in environmental governance across the world and protect all environmental defenders: wedocs.unep.org/bitstream/ha…

In my @NelsonMandela lecture in December, I called on governments to recognise #genderapartheid as an international crime so perpetrators like the Taliban who deny girls the right to go to school can be held accountable.
I'm glad six states have already raised this issue in debates about the Crimes Against Humanity treaty and I call on all governments to join them in the months ahead.
The UN published Member States' written comments on a potential crimes against humanity treaty. 6 states specifically mentioned the potential inclusion of gender apartheid as a crime against humanity and 16 raised other gendered considerations.

What do we need to do to close the #gender #climate gap? Invest in women! They are leading climate action, but resources are not flowing to them. We need to correct that
I spoke to @UNFCCC at @COP28_UAE ahead of gender day calling for #genderresponsive climate finance @UN_Women
What do we need to do to close the gap on gender and climate action?
We asked @jemimah_njuki, Chief of Economic Empowerment at @UN_Women.

Historically, much of the gender gap in earnings could be explained by differences in education and occupational choices. However, this year’s economic sciences laureate Claudia Goldin has shown that the bulk of this earnings difference is now between men and women in the same occupation, and that it largely arises with the birth of the first child.
