Replying to @TheVallyD
He gave Superman a humanity that other actors who played him have not.

Today is the National Day for the Victims of Communism. Communism killed more than 100 million people in the 20th century.
This memorial, The Memorial to the Victims of Communism in Prague, powerfully captures what communism does to the human person.

"Stan Musial once joined his High School basketball teammates in threatening to forfeit an important tournament, because hotel restaurant wouldn't seat their black teammate, Buddy Griffey, father of Ken Griffey and Jr.'s Grandpa, in main dining room."

Ken Griffey Jr. might not be the all-time best left-handed outfielder from Donora, PA whose birthday is on November 21st!!!! Though many years separated two of Donora, Pa.’s greatest, did you know that Stan Musial and Ken Griffey Jr. share birthdays and hometown?
"I love Stan Musial.
He was just awesome.
I watched him eleven, twelve times a year. I saw him in Ebbets Field, where they called him, 'Stan the Man', because that’s what he was.
'Stan the Man' as we had named him, seemed to represent all the daily goodness of his sport;
The workaday regularity, the possibilities, the joy.
There are a few people in the world who love being themselves, and I think Stan Musial is one of them.
Stan Musial has not gotten the recognition he deserves.
Musial is truly one of the great hitters.
And believe me I have great admiration for Ted Williams, but if you look at the stats, Stan Musial is right there."

"When I was working on the unauthorized biography, 'Stan Musial: An American Life,' which came out in 2011, old opponents recalled how Stan Musial knew their names after they had been in the majors only a few days."

I am speechless. Thomas Aquinas College just dropped a study on the rigor of the new SAT.
It compares the 1980/87 test with 2026. The findings should terrify every parent and teacher...
Vocabulary has collapsed.
Old SAT: 70.6% of questions tested vocab.
New SAT: 15%.
The old test forced students to know a wide range of words through analogies, antonyms, and sentence completions. The new test abandoned that. Most vocab questions now just ask students to fill in one blank from context.
Reading passages also got radically shorter (average ~97 words vs 300–340).
The new test uses short expository passages and hands you the necessary background knowledge inside the text. The older tests leaned much more heavily on argumentative and persuasive writing, assumed far more historical, scientific, and cultural knowledge, and penalized students who lacked it.
This is a redefinition of what "college readiness" means.
If you believe that kids should develop rigorous vocabulary, be capable of sustained reading, and possess background knowledge, I have bad news for you. The SAT no longer measures these.
If you want a future where children can actually read difficult texts and construct complex arguments, the SAT must be replaced now.
This cannot go on.
We were concerned that the SAT has become a less reliable measure of student preparedness for a rigorous college curriculum.
So, we commissioned a study from Johns Hopkins University. What does this study tell us about the state of higher education?
The results are shocking. thaq.co/4iLThZ0

If three kids in your son’s class dress as Spider-Man, you are legally required to take this photo.
The most disquieting fact about Old English: “Beowulf” survives in only one manuscript, and if it had perished like the others, we’d have no idea the poem ever existed. Now think of all the works, just as full of wonders, that are destroyed forever. Beowulf was only a spark.

I'm late learning this news....but thought I'd pass along.
Legendary Cincinnati radio (@webn) personality Dennis 'Wildman' Walker could use some help. He suffered a serious fall that has turned his life upside down.
He spent about seven weeks in a rehab facility. A month ago, he was unable to walk without help. But he made progress and was able to return home on October 11.
But he's dealing with unexpected medical bills, stress, and the everyday challenge of keeping up with living expenses while healing.
A Go Fund Me has been setup to help Wildman with his costs:

After forty years in front of the camera, I’ll be directing my first feature film, SO HELP ME GOD: a Civil War epic about a Union soldier named Albert Townsend, who should have received the Medal of Honor but didn’t.
Clerical error.
I learned of Albert through his descendants’ archival research. What I found was more than an injustice waiting to be corrected. It was a story of friendship and extraordinary courage: an unassuming young man becoming a soldier who held his ground, and his principles, under fire.
That’s a story worth telling on the largest possible scale. And we’re inviting the people who want to see it told to help bring it to the screen, as investors in the film through Republic.
We intend to do it justice: real cannons, one hundred horses, and the cast in period-accurate uniforms. We’ve brought on Mark Huffam, whose work includes Saving Private Ryan, Game of Thrones, and The Martian, to produce it. He knows what it takes to make an epic, and how much depends on the human story at its heart.
At the Medal of Honor Heritage Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee, I introduced the project alongside Civil War historian Brad Quinlin, members of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, and representatives of Civil War Roundtables. We’re also supporting the campaign for Albert’s posthumous Medal of Honor. His descendants are still fighting to see his courage properly recognized.
This picture is about friendship, love, and honor — and common people rising to accomplish extraordinary things. I want to give that story everything it deserves.
I hope you will lift the banner with us.

Never take a call from your credit card company or from your bank. Always assume it’s fraud.
Instead, hang up and call the number on the back of your cc or ATM card and ask if they were trying to get a hold of you. Perhaps they were, but the difference is that now you know you’re talking to the real companies.

Just started Alice Cooper's autobiography. Already I can tell its going to be excellent. This is NOT going to be the usual "wild men live crazy" rock & roll read.
