Is Robotaxi operating 24/7 in Austin now? I'm seeing what appears to be unsupervised Cybercabs between 2-6am
The Cybercab is not supposed to be a replacement for Cybertruck
Elon doesn’t want to stop production of Cybertruck because he thinks Cybercab can do everything Cybertruck can. Cybertruck just isn’t selling. Hopefully in the future they make a new mass market truck.

@elonmusk I love the Cybercab, but it can’t get me here. We need SUVs and @cybertruck This is America. We can do two things at once!!!
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I can’t wait to take my CyberCab to The Arctic Ocean through The Yukon and The Northwest Territories. Epic!
From January to August this year Cybertruck had 4x the US registrations of Rivian R1T.
That’s why I don’t think a conventional design would increase volumes much, unless it was also accompanied by a much lower price. Especially if interest rates keep rising.

It is too bad. If they made the exterior more "normal truck" and kept everything else the same, would it sell? I wonder.
Tesla’s vision for autonomy is not that everyone will be forced into one form factor, a two seater compact.
People say “What about when I want my whole family in the car?! What if i’m towing a boat? What if I have a ton of baggage?”
Autonomy will be available in every shape and size. If you think it will only run on the Cybercab, you are mistaken. Every car will be autonomous, so whatever form factor you want you’ll be able to find an autonomous option (eventually).
Cybercab isn’t designed to replace 100% of your transportation needs. It’s just designed to be the best possible vehicle for those 80% of miles traveled where it’s just you and maybe one other person in the car.
In the old manually driven world, you had to shop for the greatest common denominator. You had to find one car that could meet every possible need you could ever have.
Take your niece and nephew to Disneyland with your kids once a year? You’re going to be driving a Suburban to the grocery even when it’s just you in the car, paying a fortune for gas.
Tesla’s breakthrough with Cybercab wasn’t finding some efficiency secret the rest of the industry missed. They just asked a simple question: “What would a vehicle look like if it were designed and optimized exclusively for those 80% of trips people take themselves daily?”
“But it’s not big enough to fit my whole extended family!”
“How will I fit in my 100 inch TV in this thing?”
“Is Cybercab going to be able to pull my boat?”
No… and it doesn’t need to or want to. That is exactly what makes the Cybercab impossible to compete with for any car that was originally designed to be your personal do everything daily driver.
Post autonomy, you won’t have to just pick one form factor. You can take Cybercab to the office, to the grocery store, and back home. For the times when you want to transport a bigger group… you’ll be able to call a bigger vehicle like the Robovan for that. But that doesn’t mean you have to take a whole giant van or SUV to the corner store.
Cybercab doesn’t need to do everything. It just needs to be the cheapest way to get around town when you’re by yourself, with a friend, or with your partner. The Robotaxi service will allow you to swap out vehicles on the fly based on what you need.
Take a Cybercab home to work, take a much bigger vehicle camping for the weekend, and then switch back to cybercab after the weekend trip is over.
Tesla is beginning to design their vehicles for a future where the entire consumption model of road transport has changed. Meanwhile their competitors are still designing vehicles like they always have, full of vestiges of our manually driven past.
Instead of one size fits all, we can get different form factors that are hyper optimized for certain use cases.
This is *really good* for lowest cost per mile. This is *really good* for big groups. This is *really good* for moving tons of packages.
Even if it’s for a use case you only need once or twice a year, they can make the vehicle and it can be shared among anyone who needs it at the moment.
Autonomy isn’t just a bolt on feature to an existing car. A great autonomous vehicle is designed from top to bottom for an autonomous world. Tesla’s vertical integration, owning the entire stack from top to bottom, will be super useful here. $TSLA

One of my best friends just ordered a Cyberbeast, so not too late to get in uber the wire. A sell out would be a good send off for beloved beasts.
Is Tesla making a mistake stopping Cybertruck production?
42%Yes, it’s a mistake
58%No, sad but for the best
3,210 votes • 7 hoursWhen a lot of people think about autonomy, they think about the limited Robotaxi app offerings today where you can’t pick your route, can’t control pickup or drop off, and availability and pricing is not guaranteed.
But autonomy in the future will actually look a lot more like using FSD (Supervised) on your car. Control where you go, go wherever you want, use it just like FSD (Supervised) but with no nag.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking these early autonomous services are all the AI of the future will be capable of.
With the IRA battery production credit, the cost of a full Cybercab battery pack could be under $3,000

There are efficiency improvements coming that will allow for a 40kWh Cybercab pack. We will make this in liquid silver, so the colors are not too monotonous.
The biggest thing most people fail to understand is that there are a very limited number of smart, dedicated people! They can only do so many things.
If we have to maintain a complex production line, supply chain and allocate engineering for Cybertruck, we can’t use those people or factory space and machinery for scaling Cybercab, which is the vehicle that will PROFOUNDLY transform the world of terrestrial transport!
