Invested in age1 a few years ago and have constantly been impressed and inspired by @AlexJColville
@convergence__x has 20 episodes in the chamber rn. All with S tier guests. But honestly, this was the episode I was most excited to listen to. Alex doesn't do much media.
A conversation with Dr. Alex Colville (@AlexJColville), co-founder and GP of Age1, the first longevity fund.
He studied the biology of aging for his PhD in Genetics at Stanford and has deployed more than $100M into longevity and biotech.
We discuss how Anthropic & OpenAi are suddenly buying biotech startups and racing to solve Ai drug discovery.
And why tech billionaires + crypto founders are both allocating significant capital to this sector.
Enjoy!

Really enjoyed this panel, and the discussion on how to design fundable strategies to intervene earlier in chronic age-related diseases like Alzheimer’s.
Last week, age1 Partner @satvik_93 shared the stage with @BrackLab (Program Director, @ARPA_H), @JamesPeyer (CEO, @CambrianBio), Mike Cooney (Vice President, @BainCapital), and @Jack_O_Meara (CEO at our portfolio company @aerskatx) to discuss how to break into longevity biotech.
The panel took on two questions. First, how can pharma companies truly begin to develop therapeutics targeted towards healthy longevity and prevention? Next, how can early talent and specialists in adjacent areas like AI and bioengineering begin to make their mark on the field?
Much of the conversation focused on practical ways to reach broader patient populations and intervene earlier in progressive conditions of aging like dementia (@aerskatx) and metabolic decline.
One area we're especially excited about is muscle, tendon, and joint health, where we expect a lot of new drug development over the next five years. If you're working on this, we'd love to talk.
Thanks to @sufaldeb (@NornGroup) for organizing and bringing together an amazing group of founders, early talent, and strategists.

The most influential longevity and aging investor is someone you likely have not heard of - Alex Colville.
Over the past decade, he's been dishing out millions to biotech starups, only doing so very quietly.
There is no more confusing field than longevity and aging. Celebrities, gurus, scientists will say just about anything to get you hyped and buying stuff.
Alex has long struck me as a different sort. He's been trying to find the real science that could affect lifespan. He reads the papers. He goes deep. He dodges a lot of the stuff others back.
This is our two-hour chat with Alex where gets into the technology that he thinks is real.
Thx, as always, to @brexHQ and @sendcutsend for making the Core Memory podcast possible. Get it on all major platforms and on our YouTube channel.

We are all bombarded by longevity and anti-aging tech hype. Gurus, charlatans, and overly optimistic types abound.
This is what makes @AlexJColville refreshing. He's quietly been the most influential longevity investor of the past decade and approaches the field in a pretty sober, rational way.
We spent a couple hours with Alex getting into GLP-1s, partial cell reprogramming, China's biotech rise. All of it up to and including keeping a head alive without a body.

And on all major podcast platforms and even the non major ones.

first FDA approval resulting from a company in the portfolio!
so so excited for all those involved + the patients who now have access to a transformative therapy ❤️
Today the U.S. FDA approved our medicine – the first and only gene therapy for genetic #hearingloss – signaling a new era where enabling 24/7 natural hearing is now possible. We are proud to make this available for free in the U.S.

we’ve been filming the beauty of organ preservation research at @untillabs for a while now. it’s not an explainer or company video, it’s a window into how it feels to work on this problem from the inside.

Update: @vkhosla is joining us for a fireside chat at the AI x Longevity Summit in San Francisco.
We'll host an AI lab panel feat leaders from Google DeepMind, OpenAI, Anthropic, + lightning talks (incl from @MartinBJensen) on how AI can actually move the needle on longevity.

Coming off of last week where we announced we @age1vc led Loyal's $100M Series C and co-led Aerska's $39M Series A, we're thinking a lot about what areas we want to invest in next. 🧵

Loyal has raised a $100M Series C from age1, Baillie Gifford, existing investors, & more
this brings Loyal's total funding to over a quarter of a billion dollars
we are building the longevity pharma, starting with dog longevity. thanks @FastCompany for the exclusive ->

Stoked to reveal the news! We led Loyal’s $100M Series C. Why?
Because
1) @celinehalioua is one of the most special humans and gifted founders you will ever meet.
2) Dogs and humans deserve aging drugs!! Her team’s 1st approved therapies are going to change forever how we age!!
We’re excited to share we’ve raised $100M in Series C funding, bringing our total investment to over $250M. Led by @age1vc with participation from @BaillieGifford and existing investors, this funding will help us move from late-stage development to market readiness for LOY-002.

Very happy to share that we co-led Aerska's $39M Series A with @eqt's Dementia Fund! Neurodegeneration has robbed us of too much. Time to fight back!! $60M to date for Aerska by @Jack_O_Meara in just a couple months over one year of existing! We movin.

One of the key reasons why we don't have more cures and disease modifying therapies is that we are not great at find successful novel drug targets. @LynettaWang126 is on the chase to break down in a new series how to find better targets to accelerate more cures!!
“Biology is hard”, betting on it is harder.
Launching the first piece of a 5-part series for founders & scientists trying to find “the” successful target: open.substack.com/pub/age1/p…
Big thanks to @age1vc crew - genuinely fun building this:)
