Deer season starts today, and @txextension's Marcus Blum offers expert insights on what drives white-tailed deer behavior. Shifting daylight and temperatures trigger the rut, making deer more active and visible to hunters and drivers alike. Understanding these patterns helps communities manage wildlife and stay safe.

The front line of defense against New World screwworm isn't always in a lab. Often, it's a rancher who spots the signs and reports a case.
That's why Dr. Jason Smith, @txextension beef cattle specialist and associate professor in @AgriLife, helped develop resources for livestock owners. In the past year, AgriLife Extension has hosted more than 600 in-person events reaching over 286,000 Texans, and more than 3,500 people have completed its screwworm education course, making them eligible to become @TAHC certified inspectors.

🧬 Editing a plant’s genes is only half the challenge.
🔬 Researchers from @AgriLife the @UMBaltimore and @USDA have developed “CRISPR-Combo”, a system that combines gene editing with activation of the plant’s own regeneration genes.
🍊 In citrus, the approach increased shoot regeneration to 80% or higher in laboratory conditions, compared with less than 60% in controls.
🥔 In potato, selected regeneration genes increased efficiency to 45–70%, compared with around 30–35% in controls.
🌳 In wild strawberry and poplar, combining regeneration genes also shortened the time needed to produce regenerated edited plants.
