We keep getting told that tomorrow’s election is The Most Consequential in Israel’s History. But surely that title should go to the previous election in 2022 which unleashed on Israel the coalition of chaos. Tomorrow’s election will either be just an extension of the wreckers’ license or the beginning of a very slow and gradual change. That is what Israeli elections should be. We elect coalitions of parties that compromise with each other, not radical reformers. Real change will take years of work and the election is at most just the beginning. My column in @haaretzcom

Netanyahu has entered his familiar scorched-earth phase of the election campaign. First, warnings of war with Iran. Then, threats of financial collapse and banking sanctions. Now, an AI-generated mushroom cloud over Tel Aviv.
The message is clear: Vote for me or Israel will be destroyed.
This is fearmongering at its worst. But Israel existed before @Netanyahu and it will exist after him. And after October 7, Israelis should know better than to believe that any one politician has a monopoly on protecting this country.

אבל נתניהו מסתכל עליהם מלמעלה, הוא באמת עשרות מונים יותר מוכשר מכל המועמדים שלהם. ובזכותו גם ציבור מזרחי ענק שבחר בו בחוכמת ההמון שלו – קול המון כקול שדי - מסתכל עליהם באופן שוויוני. ושוויון זה הדבר שההגמוניה הכי שונאת.

בבחירות הללו הם לא רוצים להפיל את נתניהו, הם רוצים להפיל את הציבור המזרחי שבגין הכניס לישראליות במהפך 77 ושהיום נתניהו הוא הביטוי הכי משמעותי והכי יוקרתי וזוהר לנוכחות שלו.
