What is the CLARITY Act, and why does it matter for crypto?
The proposed U.S. legislation aims to establish clearer rules for digital assets, defining the roles of the SEC and CFTC and setting standards for exchanges, brokers, and dealers.
But its path to becoming law remains uncertain. 🧵
1/ The CLARITY Act passed the House in 2025 but stalled in the Senate in September 2026.
If enacted, it would:
→ Clarify which assets fall under SEC or CFTC oversight → Establish registration requirements for intermediaries → Strengthen customer asset protections
→ Introduce clearer compliance obligations
2/ While Congress debates, regulators continue moving forward.
For crypto businesses, preparing for stronger security, custody, and compliance requirements remains essential, regardless of the bill's outcome.
