Thank you to all MPs and Peers who have worked to end live exports in Parliament for years. And to all the orgs, campaigners and public who have tirelessly worked to end this vile trade. GB is the first in Europe to ban live animal exports & we hope other countries will introduce their own bans

I have introduced a bill to introduce compulsory labelling of halal and kosher meat.
Consumers have a right to know what they are eating. Yet every day people are consuming halal and kosher meat without knowing it - that’s meat where the animal has its throat slit and often is not stunned before slaughter.
At its heart, this is a straightforward proposal built on consumer choice, animal welfare and transparency. It is not about banning halal or kosher meat but about the compulsory labelling of it, which is currently only voluntary, so as to ensure consumers know what they are buying.
What began as a limited religious exemption has become an increasingly significant part of meat production.
A Westminster Hall debate on hunting trophy imports is scheduled for 11 November at 9.30-11am. Please contact your MP and urge them to attend. Hearing directly from constituents will help MPs understand the strength of public support for a ban.Find your MP’s contact details here:writetothem.com
Our thanks to Clive Efford MP for securing the debate.
The Government made a commitment in its election manifesto to ban the importation of hunting trophies, yet a legislative timetable has still not been announced.

🐾 I have presented my Animal Shelters (Licensing) Bill in Parliament 🏛️
The Bill will have its Second Reading on Friday 15th January 2027, aiming to strengthen standards and protections for animals in shelters
The Government have said they’ll consult maybe next year and legislate afterwards but I’m not taking any chances and determined to keep the pressure on, especially after the horrible case from my own constituency.
🐶🐱 Every animal deserves care, safety and protection. ❤️

Remember that fireworks can cause animals fear and distress. A vet who is set to spend #BonfireNight treating cattle and sheep spooked by fireworks says there is "no doubt" they suffer as much as family pets. The vet said in previous years she had treated cattle with broken legs that had jumped fences, performed caesarean sections on heifers in premature labour and rounded up an escaped herd that caused a traffic incident

Brave of @EstherMcVey1 to lead this Bill. It should not be controversial to give consumers transparency on how the meat they purchase has been slaughtered.

With reports of Labour’s handover to the EU of our food laws today, I’m reminded of the wise words of a Lincolnshire farmer: “If you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu.”
Here are some of the concerns and realities of what Labour’s EU handover actually means for British food, farming and drink 👇
Too many people are unaware of the serious repercussions Labour’s EU negotiations will have on our UK food, farming and drink sectors.
Labour is conducting these Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) negotiations in secret, without a clear mandate or firm red lines. Even more concerning, they have barely consulted the businesses most affected. Instead, they seem intent on going full steam ahead, handing over control of our regulations and leaving British consumers and businesses dangerously exposed.
That’s why the @Conservatives are raising the alarm. We want to promote and protect our farmers, food producers and scientists.
It is not about the past or re-litigating the referendum. It is about our future: the cost of food in our baskets and our ability to feed ourselves in an increasingly volatile world. It is about fairness and avoiding unfair competition with heavily-subsidised EU farmers – especially since Labour have cut the farming budget and stripped support from our own farmers.
We must recognise our national strengths in agriculture and veterinary standards from Precision Breeding to world-leading animal welfare standards.
Listen to some of the concerns the sector have shared with me and my analysis on Labour’s claims here 👇

Mandatory labelling would provide British consumers with key information about the standards that farmed animals are reared in to produce their food. The British public and animal protection organisations have long called for mandatory labelling for animal welfare to provide such information at the point of purchase. In particular, animal protection organisations have called for labelling based on method of production and whether animals have been stunned prior to slaughter
On Tuesday 3 November, @EstherMcVey1 will bring a Ten Minute Rule Motion on Food Labelling ( halal and kosher meat) before the House of Commons. Consumers deserve clear labelling at the point of purchase
