After more than two decades in clinical practice, I have a lot to say about how we understand human suffering—and what we may be missing.
My new book, The Awakening They Cannot Medicate, is out today.
It explores mental health, human potential, and what it means to reclaim your power to heal.
If you read it, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

What might we learn about ourselves if we stopped trying to escape every uncomfortable feeling?
When uncertainty feels uncomfortable, the mind can reach for something to analyze, solve, or worry about. But does all that thinking help us understand the feeling or keep us occupied trying to escape it?
@DrMcFillin explores this pattern in our conversation on energy transmutation. Becoming aware of what we’re carrying internally is part of learning how to channel that energy into a more intentional response.
What do you notice beneath the urge to figure everything out?

Been screaming from the roof tops for what amounts to decades now that stimulant drugs do NOT improve school performance. Medical professionals have consistently disputed my claims-despite the evidence
Another large study finds ADHD meds don't improve school performance, at least for kids on the margin of treatment.
I remain unsure what ADHD is. I was taught it was a delay in maturation that resolved. Later, a lifelong disorder of attention. More recently, a problem of alertness and reward pathways more than attention.
Either way, parents and teachers often push medication hoping to improve grades.
This study looked at all children aged 5 to 15 in Norway. It used differences in how clinics prescribe as a natural experiment. Using this analysis academic benefits of medication disappeared.
"For children and adolescents on the margin of pharmacological treatment for ADHD, we found no causal effect of pharmacological treatment on any of our measures of academic performance."

Tonight’s outcome isn’t about placing faith in Democrats or socialist principles; it’s about holding Republicans accountable for betraying their promises.
All Republicans had to do was:
1. put Americans First
2. not start another war
3. prosecute sex traffickers

Imagine how much propaganda it took to convince mothers they should birth babies in a sterile room, cut their umbilical cord immediately and then inject them with poison.
Watch the episode, and before you do, try a small experiment. Put your phone down, close your eyes, and sit for two minutes with nothing to do. Notice what rises in you, and notice how badly you want to reach for something to make it stop.
When every uncomfortable feeling gets met with a distraction, we miss the chance to understand what’s happening within us. That pattern can start in childhood and follow us into adulthood.
@DrMcFillin and @TracyAThurman explore energy transmutation: noticing the emotional energy we carry, sitting with it, and learning to channel it into a more intentional response.

The "mental health industrial complex" demands more money for drugs, and more therapy.
Psychologist @DrMcFillin says we've "medicalized" normal struggle, that therapy adding diagnoses can backfire.
Stossel TV Fellow @AdamOmaryPhD of @HumanProgress @CatoInstitute reports:
The Mental Health Industrial Complex: More Diagnoses, Drugs & Money
Are Americans in a mental health crisis? Politicians and public health officials say we are. Stossel TV Fellow Adam Omary, reports on another explanation for rising rates: more therapy.
Can you imagine demanding more federal money for mental health interventions? More social workers? More school based mental health? Intervening even younger? I counter a popular social worker's fear mongering on

Researchers left people alone in an empty room with nothing but their thoughts and a button that delivered an electric shock. The results may shock you. We have more mental health advice than any generation in history. We are also more anxious, more depressed and more medicated than ever. That is not a coincidence. I argue that the standard advice is backwards, and that the way most people handle their problems is the very thing creating more of them. By the end of this episode, you may never look at your own problems the same way again. 👇

It never sat well with me that someone who hears voices is just "mentally ill" and subjected to managing the disease for life. So I have been investigating. I have met people who were diagnosed with schizophrenia and overcame the condition. Requires a complete paradigm shift and a willingness to be open to alternative explanations. CHOP’s “Close Your Eyes, We’ll Immunize” program offers flu shots while children are under anesthesia.
The hospital says families must agree, while acknowledging limited time for detailed discussions.
Parents deserve to understand every proposed intervention, ask questions, and decline without pressure. I expect healthcare professionals to protect that process.
Read what you’re signing. Ask the uncomfortable questions. Make sure your decisions are documented.

The one rule that changed how I face every struggle. Take a listen.
Today, Monday, November 2, @DrMcFillin and @TracyAThurman challenge the constant pressure to analyze every feeling, fix every problem, and keep pushing through.
In this episode of Radically Genuine, they explore energy transmutation: sitting with what you feel, observing it without judgment, and creating space to respond with intention.
Tracy shares a rule she’s been practicing: when a decision feels urgent, pause and find peace before acting. Roger explains why even overthinking can become a way to avoid feeling and how stillness, movement, and morning routines shape the way we meet our day.

I recently read a Medscape article recommending ways physicians can respond to patients influenced by "misinformation," including storytelling and a technique called "pre-bunking."
As a psychologist, here's my concern: are these tools helping patients make an informed decision, or steering them toward a decision that's already been made for them?
Listening requires being willing to reconsider your own assumptions. That responsibility belongs to the physician, too.
You have every right to question your doctor.
Ask about the evidence. Ask about the risks. Ask about alternatives.
Those questions deserve a thoughtful answer.
Your medical autonomy matters. Trust has to be earned.
I break this down in one of my latest articles on Substack.

1/ In the past ten days, governments across the world have started telling citizens the same thing: prepare to stand on your own.
Here is what is happening, and why I believe it matters far more than most people realize. 🧵
6/ I believe we are in a spiritual battle, and that what is coming will be a series of events, not one catastrophe.
The first and most important instruction I have received: do not go into fear or panic. Fear is exactly what they want.
7/ I wrote out the full guidance I have received for this transition and made it free for everyone to read.
