DELIVERED BY PONY EXPRESS! 🐎💌
After 3,217 kilometers from St. Joseph, Missouri, to Sacramento, California, Lachy arrived at the historic Pony Express Terminal at 11 p.m. local time, just 6 days, 21 hours and 15 minutes after setting off.
He finished 19 hours and 45 minutes ahead of the record pace set on horseback by the riders who delivered Abraham Lincoln’s inaugural address from Missouri to California on the route of the Pony Express back in 1861.
Lachy set out inspired by the courage of those original riders, who ventured into the unknown to connect communities across a vast and rugged country. More than 160 years later, he found that same spirit in the people he met along the way, from small towns in Nebraska and Wyoming to remote communities in the Nevada desert.
Their courage is still there. The United States is still being built.
Chapeau, Lachy!
3am departure, and 100 kilometers under the belt by 7:30am. Lachy is cruising on a beautiful morning in Nevada. 400 kilometers to go.

One more day. That’s the goal. 🐎
After six days racing west along the old Pony Express route, Lachlan Morton is closing in on Sacramento. If all goes to plan, he’ll arrive tomorrow night, a full day ahead of the record set by horseback riders in 1861.
SAC, we can’t wait to see you ❤️
One last big push. Go Lachy! 💨

“This is what I thought it would be.”
After days of roads, wind and cold, Lachy finally hit the kind of terrain he came looking for: rough, remote and almost unchanged since the days of the Pony Express.
Deep in the Nevada desert, the trail dissolved into rocky tracks and dried-out marsh, forcing him off the bike and onto his feet. But still he was grinning.
With a storm moving in from the Pacific and hard terrain still ahead, every kilometer counts.

Day 5 | Overland Summit, NV | KM 2,388
From the remote Wyoming wilderness to the streets of Salt Lake City. Another 440 kilometers in the books for Lachy after his toughest day on the trail yet.
Next up: 800 kilometers of even more remote and harsher terrain across Nevada.
Follow Lachy’s progress at efprocycling.com.
Over halfway there, another state crossed, and smooth sailing on a beautiful fall day in Wyoming. 🍂
Lachy is heading into Utah with close to a 400-kilometer lead over the Pony Express’ fastest time. The gap is growing, but some of the toughest terrain of the ride still lies ahead.

The last time Lachlan rode through Basin, cold stole all feeling from his fingers for months. That was during his record-setting ride on the Tour Divide in 2023. Thankfully, the sun was on his side this time around until it fell.
When day turned to dusk, Lachlan’s trail disappeared. He tried to reroute but was soon lurching through deep, loose sand and scraggly brush in the dark.
He made it to his cold campsite a few hours after he intended cold and tired but in good spirits. From here, it is another 400 kilometers to Salt Lake City.
That’s today’s destination if all goes to plan. Track Lachy: efprocycling.com/culture/lac…
Day 3 | South Pass, Wyo. | KM 1,650
After 686 miles / 1,104 kilometers and 38 hours in the saddle Lachy’s first day comes to an end.
Darkness, relentless wind, more raccoons than he’s ever seen, and a headwind after sunrise made for a long shift - but he kept pushing west.
Tonight, he finally stopped in Guernsey, Wyoming, his fifth state of the ride, for a few hours of sleep before getting back on the road at 2am.

Day 2 | Guernsey, WY | KM 1,104
Lachy is well on his way and already bearing down on the 500-kilometer mark.
To beat the Pony Express record, Lachlan knows he has to go fast. He has 7 days and 17 hours to cover 3,208 km / 1,993 miles. That means averaging roughly 416 km / 259 miles every day, or 17.3 km/h around the clock.
That includes every stop, meal and hour of sleep. So far, he’s averaging just over 30 km/h.
Yee-haww. 🤠🐎

Day 1 | Kenesaw, NE | KM 440
7 days, 17 hours. That’s the 160 year-old horseback record Lachlan is setting out to beat.
The Pony Express promised to carry mail across the American West in 10 days or less. Now, Lachlan is taking on the route by bike, racing against its fastest recorded delivery.
