Today, I presented #Vision2040 alongside my colleague, Vice-President @RaffaeleFitto: a clear path to resilient and competitive fisheries and aquaculture sectors, grounded in healthy seas, profitable businesses and thriving communities.
Our food security, coastal jobs and maritime identity depend on it.
Our priorities:
🔹 Modern fleets and an affordable energy transition.
🔹 Simpler rules and better access to investment.
🔹 Attractive careers for a new generation.
🔹 Fair competition and zero tolerance for illegal fishing.
Sustainability and competitiveness must advance together. Healthy fish stocks sustain livelihoods. Viable businesses give people the confidence to invest, innovate and stay in the sector.
We have listened to fishers, aquaculture producers, coastal communities, scientists and marine conservation groups. Now we must turn that dialogue into action—with Member States, regions and the people whose future is at stake.

An insightful and honest exchange with @EuropecheOrg, following Tuesday’s presentation of the Vision 2040 for Fisheries and Aquaculture.
The Vision identifies key concerns of the fisheries and aquaculture sectors and puts forward concrete steps to address them: addressing the landing obligation, facilitating fleet modernization, supporting small scale fishers, ensuring level playing field, fighting against IUU fishing, and providing a simplified legal framework for aquaculture.
Our commitment is clear. To deliver concrete results fast. We will continue working together to make these benefits real and immediate for fishers and coastal communities.
What happens when small-scale fishers are missing from the data shaping decisions about our seas? 🎣
Their needs risk being overlooked.
The EU-funded #EM4SSF project is working to change that, supporting healthier seas and coastal communities.

Great exchange with MEP @CarmenCrespoPP, Chair of the Committee on Fisheries (PECH), MEP Paulo do Nascimento Cabral, Vice-Chair of the PECH Committee and MEP @ilecallennec, EPP Coordinator in the PECH Committee on Vision2040 for fisheries and aquaculture.
We discussed our shared vision for the future of EU fisheries, focusing on the challenges, opportunities and priorities that will shape the sector in the years ahead.
Our ambition is to ensure a competitive, resilient and sustainable fisheries sector, supporting fishers and coastal communities while safeguarding our fisheries for future generations.

Meeting Greenlandic youth and academics at the University of Greenland piloting a new study programme rooted in Greenland’s unique natural environment, culture and labour market needs.🇬🇱
We continued discussions with researchers and scientists at the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources, which offered valuable insights into the study of Arctic ecosystems and the sustainable management of natural resources.
This is the bedrock of Greenland’s sustainable future and a source of inspiration for our work on the EU ocean research and innovation strategy coming up next year.
