At about 12:45 p.m. Friday, the FDNY responded to 3408 Wright Avenue in the Bronx for a report of a fire on the first floor of a three-story multiple dwelling with people trapped.
"Units arrived within four minutes and found fire on the top floor," Deputy Assistant Chief Thomas Haughney said. "All four people self-evacuated."
Members stretched five handlines to extinguish the heavy fire on the top floor, which extended to a second building. The fire reached a third-alarm assignment.
Four civilians suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The fire was placed under control in about one hour. The cause remains under investigation by FDNY Fire Marshals.

🔺 HIGH-ANGLE TECHNICAL RESCUE
At about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, the FDNY responded to 3 World Trade Center in Manhattan, where five people were trapped in an elevator inside a blind shaft near the 32nd floor.
With no direct access to the elevator car, two firefighters—one from Rescue 1 and one from Squad 18—entered the blind shaft at the 47th floor and were lowered approximately 175 feet to reach the trapped occupants. The two firefighters, assisted by members from Engine 10 and Ladder 10, brought one civilian to safety, ascending back up the 175 feet via rope.
After the initial high-angle technical rescue, members were able to gain access to the elevator car by breaching a wall in a bathroom on the 32nd floor and removed the four remaining individuals.
One civilian and two firefighters suffered minor injuries.
This is the specialized training, technical expertise and teamwork FDNY members bring to the most challenging emergencies in New York City.

Chief of Department John Esposito and FDNY members gathered Saturday for a wreath-laying ceremony commemorating the 60th anniversary of the 23rd Street Fire.
On Oct. 17, 1966, a 5-alarm fire that began in a storage area of the Wonder Drug Store at 23rd Street and Broadway in Manhattan led to the collapse of the building's ground floor. Twelve members, representing nearly every rank from deputy chief to probationary firefighter, made the Supreme Sacrifice that day. It was the greatest loss of life in FDNY history before the September 11th attacks.
