Our Iganga Field Office, with support from @IDLO, funded by @SwedeninUG, we engaged community members in Kiboyo Village, Iganga District, on land rights, succession, childrenโs rights and court processes. โ๏ธ
The engagement provided a platform for community members and local leaders to discuss legal challenges affecting their community and explore lawful avenues for redress. A Mobile Legal Aid Clinic was also scheduled to provide legal advice and support to residents with pressing cases.
Strengthening legal awareness and bringing legal aid closer to communities are essential steps towards ensuring that everyone can understand, claim and exercise their rights. ๐ค

For the mining communities of Nanyidik, Moroto District, the realities of marble extraction extend beyond the resources taken from the ground. Reports of unpaid earnings, unequal pay, sexual exploitation, unsafe working conditions and limited access to basic services raise critical questions about whose rights are protected in the pursuit of profit.
FIDA-Uganda supported by ๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ช๐ณ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ช, and in collaboration with @UccaUg, engaged miners and community stakeholders in a community baraza to discuss these challenges and identify practical pathways towards accountability.
The engagement reinforces a central message of the 7th Annual National Forum on Business and Human Rights: ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐, ๐๐๐๐

Women must be able to earn a living free from exploitation. Workers must receive fair payment for their labour. And communities must have access to effective remedies when their rights are violated.
Through legal guidance and the development of simple contract templates for marble transactions, FIDA-Uganda is supporting miners to strengthen their ability to document agreements and pursue remedies for unpaid earnings. ๐

One conversation can challenge assumptions. One action can change a young personโs future.
With just one day to go, weโre bringing the conversation on teenage pregnancy in Uganda to the forefront. Beyond the statistics, young people navigate decisions, barriers to healthcare, questions of consent and protection, and systems that must do more to safeguard their rights.
Lasting change requires us to ask difficult questions: Are young people adequately protected? Can they access the support they need? And are the institutions responsible for their well-being equipped and accountable to act?
Join us for the next #LinkLearnAct webinar as we examine the role of justice, protection and accountability in addressing teenage pregnancy and shaping a future where young peopleโs rights are not just recognised, but upheld.
Register now: bit.ly/4I4WPOK.
The conversation must go beyond identifying the problem. It must challenge the systems, inspire action, and move us closer to meaningful change.

Survival is not the same as freedom. Women's rights must include agency, choice, and the power to shape their own futures.
Let us move beyond celebrating womenโs resilience to challenging the barriers that make resilience necessary.

๐ฏ๐๐๐๐ ๐น๐๐๐๐๐โ, to reflect on progress in implementing Ugandaโs National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights and strengthen collective action towards responsible business practices.
As Uganda advances this agenda, womenโs rights and gender equality must remain central to the conversation. Women workers, entrepreneurs and communities can experience distinct barriers to accessing decent work, equal opportunities and effective remedies when their rights are violated. Addressing these barriers requires sustained commitment, meaningful accountability and systems that protect the rights and dignity of all.
Human rights must not end at the workplace door, nor remain commitments on paper. They must be upheld in practice, protected through accountability and reinforced by access to justice.
