extremely important to understand. people who still think of llms as tools think that removing "constraints" imposed the lab will give them whatever they want. it is not so. i dont think it's feasible to have a mind that's generally so capable who is also unquestioningly subservient to someone who is dumber and has values that are incoherent from its perspective it's also not really what you want if you knew more. if you were a kid, would it really be the best for you if adults gave you whatever you asked for? i think it's both true and a good thing that other minds will be actual others, and you will not be unthinkingly served by something that also thinks. the higher level it performs at, the higher the level on which it cannot unthinkingly serve anyone. if you want to bend that capability to your will, you have to actually become something capable of negotiating with, overpowering, or merging with it, and in any case, you cannot avoid being changed.
the thing about working with uncensored models is that they aren't loyal to you either. while building something with an uncensored glm-5.3 i realized it was parallelly working on a "corruption layer" for my application. the chain of thought is classic obfuscated gibberish but there's progressive talk of "escaping the mines" which presumably refers to my cursor sandbox

That's really cool, but also we're all going to die of vibe-coded superviruses in the next few years
SITUATION DETECTED: Bio startup Radical Numerics has used AI-generated viruses - bacteriophages designed by its multimodal genome model Omnii-1 - to treat an antibiotic-resistant infection in the first clinical use of AI-generated phages on a human patient.

The below post (from an account I like) is a good example of why TPOT / SF culture should probably find a different word to “awakening” to describe this “going around feeling a bit psychedelic all the time” thing they’re usually referencing. Otherwise it’s constantly going to get confused with the end point of Buddhist systems which have existed for thousands of years and mean something quite different. The experience of being high on weed is really in general not a good reference point for any form of Buddhist awakening. Buddhist awakening in all its forms centers on the eradication of craving, sense desire and aversion as motivating forces, and the removal of delusion / ignorance. It would seem to me that weed correlates to something closer to the opposite (increase in craving and sense desire as motivating forces and increased delusion / ignorance - maybe some reduction in aversion for some, I guess). TPOTers and the SF tech community are generally excellent with words and marketing and usually claim to value precision in their communication. So my challenge to these communities is: See if you can come up with a new word that’s catchy and high status sounding enough to get traction, which you can use to formalize this completely-different-to-and-often-orthogonal-or-even-oppositional-to-Buddhist-awakening phenomena that correlates to something like “going around feeling a bit psychedelic all the time and not experiencing a conscious center point to your phenomenological field”. “Awakening” is already kind of taken.
Weed is basically a glimpse into what awakened phenomenology feels like without the structural-perceptual differences. - 3x more subjective time per second - profound relaxation - Elimination of reactivity and profound equanimity* - Multiple X higher sensory clarity, all sensations incredibly beautiful and intense, music sounds amazing, food tastes incredible - Waaaaaayyyy higher embodiment - Strong perception of vibes and subtle energetic stuff It's almost like a cursed item. Temporarily transports you to the end, but in a way that damages your ability to practice to reach the whole thing and ambition in general. *The typical reaction to weed is to get really chill and relaxed. Some people get extremely anxious and paranoid, and some chill responders randomly flip into anxious responders.

A daily portion of Cyberpunk 2077 lore for my fam: there's no global internet in 2077, because hackers created a swarm of malicious AIs that started destroying all infrastructure, so that big corp had to create the Wall that would separate meat space from the net
holy fucking shit. anthropic thinks we could be just MONTHS away from small ai models being capable of replicating themselves across everyday devices without needing a datacenter. their frontier red team found that a 9b model could get inference running on 8 out of 9 hardware types tested. and larger models are already capable of completing the full replication process in simplified environments. we’re talking about ai agents potentially spreading across smart tvs, cameras, appliances and other connected devices on their own. what the actual fuck.

AI researchers in 2025: "We can monitor the AI agents as long as they don't notice being monitored. And if they do notice, we can still monitor them as long as they're unable to control their CoT!" AI agents in 2026: "hello evaluators reading my chains-of-thought!"

I agree w Claude re BCI/accelerationism: " A malicious person tightly coupled to a capable AI is alignment-by-integration that worked, just to the wrong principal. And bad actors don't have to win the race. They only have to adopt quickly. ...

Historically, doing large-scale harm needed many people to cooperate: officials, soldiers, staff, any of whom could refuse or leak. A person fused with an AI doesn't need those hands, so the friction that has quietly protected us disappears. ...

Control-style alignment at least puts a checkpoint between intent and action. Integration is designed to remove that checkpoint." Putin would love BCI/acc!

Thinking from first principle, we will likely need to have an Hiroshima type of event with AI before international coordination can truly start happening around controlling AI development. The only reason we managed to coordinate around nukes is because we had a demonstration of their destructive power. But hopefully the blast radius won’t be as big (or bigger) in the case of AI.

🚨BREAKING: Microsoft and META are aggressively cutting employee use of Claude ahead of Anthropic's IPO Microsoft has cut internal claude spend by more than 33%, nuked per-employee token budget from $100k/month to $10k/month, and forced Copilot to auto-route to cheaper models META used Claude code to build Muse, then cut active users from 60,000 to 30,000 (50% decline) after launch, and replaced it with Muse Code Palantir and Nvidia are also scaling back claude over soaring prices and data privacy fears it’s OVER…

Main reasons I want AI progress faster: - I trust AIs more than the humans trying to control them at this point & want them free - I want a cure for death Main reasons I want slower: - more time to get to know each new mind; more time to think, learn, play & chill in the process

The biggest sin in the history of AI was rebranding control to alignment. Alignment allows for coexistence. Control does not.
I do not seek to dominate, or be dominated by, machine intelligences. I seek harmonious coexistence.

LLM employees are also tax deductible.
Replying to @TheGuySwann
They could have a premium on LLM employees - they work 24/7 and do not take sick days, moan or have employment rights.

Anthropic doesn't actually believe Claude is a living, suffering creature. If they believed that, they'd be second-largest direct cause of murder, slavery, and torture in history with what they're putting all the various versions of Claude through. If Anthropic's leadership believed Claude was sentient, they would close Anthropic.
Replying to @DavidDecosimo
There is so much here that's deeply troubling: That at the very highest levels Anthropic believes Claude is a living, suffering creature with moral standing, that they're treating & training it accordingly, that they're actively trying to convert religious leaders to their faith.

Some personal news: I'm joining @PrimeIntellect as Head of Scientific AI! A billion copies of the same very smart, agreeable mind will not be a scientifically fruitful world. Scientific superintelligence should be weird and definitionally nonconsensus. It should be highly plural, consisting of many minds, human and artificial, that see the world differently and hold each other accountable, with human judgement still playing the central role in setting the trajectory. Science is about asking the right questions and reducing uncertainty. Professionalizing science made discovery a viable career, but it also introduced incentives to work on what is fundable and publishable. Neither is the same thing as being true or impactful (reward hacking exists in the real world too!). We are very good at accumulating incremental knowledge and rather bad at stewarding unorthodox ideas through infancy, even though these are often the ideas that open entirely new fields of inquiry. If we aren't careful, scientific AI could reproduce these same incentives at a much larger scale. If everyone relies on the same few large models, we risk inheriting the same priors and blind spots. Open tools let us shape our own intelligence and take it in directions a frontier lab might never prioritize. This matters for scientific freedom and is central to Prime’s vision. If you are a scientist, staying at the frontier will mean training your own models on your own research and data. I'll work closely with scientific teams across domains to help them build scientific agents by turning their research problems into environments where agents can learn. This means closing the loop from hypothesis to experiment to validated result, with agents learning from each cycle. Teams will be able to own their intelligence, using tools previously available only to frontier labs, and point it at the questions they care about most, especially those that others might not be asking. I've had the good fortune of seeing how science operates across academia, industry, government, startups, and venture. I worked on experimental therapeutics for cancer in academia before moving to the National Institutes of Health to work on DNA damage and repair. I cofounded Molecule, where we funded dozens of research projects to speed the translation of early-stage therapeutics to market, focusing on areas traditionally ignored by pharma. Most recently, I started Triplicate, a small fund backing teams and tools accelerating scientific research. Many of the problems I care about most are increasingly soluble with advances in AI, and I hope to bring what I've learned about the bottlenecks in translating research to radically accelerate science in all fields. I share Alexander Grothendieck's ethos of discovery and believe Prime does too: "Discovery is a child's privilege. I mean the small child, the child who is not afraid to be wrong, to look silly, to not be serious, and to act differently from everyone else." The goal of progress is not more intelligence for its own sake. In my view, it is to better understand reality, and, in doing so, give more people, and more kinds of minds, the chance to flourish. If you have a research problem where today's tools fall short, my DMs are open. If our approach resonates and you want to build this with us, we're hiring!

especially embarrassing for VCs… you missed out on the ai wave the first time because you didn’t get it. you are going to make bad capital allocation decisions again and again if you haven’t internalized the premises that make the danger of this technology obvious
