Program announcement on Krishna Janmashtami! 🙏
You've heard of IQ. You've heard of EQ. But CQ?
Welcome to the real-world idea of CQ or Critical Thinking Quotient. A person can be intelligent yet irrational, empathetic yet misguided, because intelligence (IQ) and empathy (EQ) alone do not ensure clarity of thought. CQ is the ability to seek truth beyond personal biases, to develop convictions over lazy conclusions, to cultivate a mind that discerns fact from opinion. To judge people fairly, go beyond your bias. To have the courage to change your mind when you learn more. To make decisions that conquer mental agitation. To make choices that challenge your own ego.
Dive deep into a framework that illuminates the dynamics of critical thinking. Learn how the science of Intellect Yoga empowers you to master this vital capacity to shape your world view, sharpen your judgment and dramatically improve your decision making, brought to you by Intellect Yoga Institute.

Socratic Method of Teaching vs Upanishadic Method of Learning
The 'Socratic method of teaching' as it is known today is based on the Greek Philosopher's approach of engaging in a dialogue with his students and followers. This approach was distinctly different from what was in vogue i.e. an instructional style which continues to be the mainstream method today. 🧵

In recent years, the spotlight has been shining on both these traditions. While the Western education system has highlighted the value of the Socratic method, educators in India are re-discovering the power of the Gurukula system along with the Upaniṣadic approach to Learning.

Companies today would be well served by adopting either or both of these methods especially for programs that build leadership and soft skills. Both these methods can drive higher employee engagement since they provide a platform for dialogue and debate rather than just acceptance.
Here's a snapshot of what is similar and what's distinct between the two traditions.

Svadharma and Business (1/3)
The modern idea of business is to maximize returns for its owners. This simple notion has evolved into maximizing returns while minimizing risks. In capitalist constructs, the 'means' is constrained by ecosystem (resources, demand, supply, competition) limitations, and compliance with the law. These are external constraints and hence the firm is constantly under stress to maximize its performance based on externalities. This becomes a fight for scarce resources at the lowest cost and, often, the continuous search for regulatory loopholes that can be exploited. 🧵

Svadharma and Business (2/3)
When we inject the idea of Svadharma into a firm, it takes us in the opposite direction. Dharma provides the integral balancing force which then leads the firm to engage differently with external constraints, not as 'boxes to be ticked' but 'doing the right thing' that must be embraced for the sake of the greater good. While the current idea of Sustainability, as in the UN's 17 Sustainable Development goals or SDGs, is urging firms to discover their wider responsibilities, this does not provide a clear path to becoming a conscientious and self correcting entity.
Svadharma and Business (3/3)
Need for Dharma in the workplace is no longer a 'nice to have' but a dire necessity. I invite you to picture a world where as each firm aligns with its Svadharma, we will collectively experience the magic of Dharmic Capitalism.
Does the 5P framework offer a pragmatic approach for positive change?
Let's discuss in the comments below.

Svadharma and Business
"Sukhasya moolam Dharmah, Dharmasya moolam Arthah, Arthasya moolam Rajyam, Rajyasya moolam Indriya Jayah" - paraphrased from Kautilya's Arthashastra
Dharma, a word that has no parallel in any other language and philosophy, provides the existential, directional and balancing force of nature.
Visualize it as a flower with many petals where each petal comes alive gloriously when applied to context:
🔸 that which sustains
🔸 principles of ethics/values/conduct/righteousness
🔸 essential quality of a person or thing
🔸 raison d'être or reason to exist
🔸 a set of duties starting with the self and then extending out in concentric circles of humanity and nature
The fragrance of this flower is expressed in
'Dharmo Rakṣati Rakṣitaḥ'
(धर्मो रक्षति रक्षितः) or Dharma, when upheld, protects (the one who upholds it).
This is a clarion call for individual responsibility and direct agency.

For my first post, I’m sharing a letter @NVIDIA signed on why open models matter.
AI will transform every industry, power every company, and be built by every country.
Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty.
The world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models.

Proud to see our incubated deep-tech startup, The ePlane Company, pull back the curtain today on the e200X (PT-01), the full-scale physical reality of their physics-first approach to aviation.
While the global industry has spent billions building massive aircraft that require cities to rebuild their infrastructure completely, IIT Madras faculty member Prof. Satya Chakravarthy and his team took a completely different path.
At just 8m × 11m, the e200X is the world’s most compact passenger eVTOL, engineered to carry a pilot + 200kg of payload directly out of current helipads. Backed by over 10,000 km of cumulative flight testing and holding a formal Design Organisation Approval (DOA) from the DGCA, ePlane represents the elite tier of execution rigour in the Advanced Air Mobility sector.

I don't know.
When was the last time you said this? If you have not uttered these golden words in the last one week you could have a problem.
You are not growing toward your full potential.
And if you are a leader at any level, you are doing a poor job. Chances are that your team members are stunting as well.
So what's the root cause?
According to Vedānta, Ahaṅkāra is the excessive identification of the self with the 'I' and the more this clinging, the worse you make it for yourself.
Two actionable items for this week:
● Say 'I don't know' at least once in every meeting.
● Explicitly appreciate team members who say it at least once in every meeting.
Watch the magic unfold.
Insights for growth. Rooted in wisdom.
