Seagrasses are a foundational element for coastal ecosystems worldwide, removing nutrients, CO2, pathogens, and even heavy metals from the water column to support abundant marine life. Roughly a fifth of the world's seagrass has been lost since the late 1800s, making restoration central to ocean stewardship. A major constraint on scaling seagrass restoration is access to planting material. Traditionally, divers collect plants from the seabed or gather seeds by hand. It is slow, labor-intensive work that cannot scale with conventional methods. Harvesting plants from donor meadows can even damage the healthy habitats that restoration is meant to protect. Ulysses is developing minimally invasive, species-specific payloads that collect fruits and seeds at scale from key seagrass species, including Posidonia australis, Zostera marina, and more. Automating collection cuts cost and reduces disturbance to donor meadows, so we can restore larger areas while protecting existing habitat. Pictured: Posidonia australis fruits collected in Cockburn Sound, Western Australia, by a Ulysses Mako equipped with our Gen 2 harvesting payload, November 2025.

"It is not your love that sustains the marriage, but from now on, the marriage that sustains your love." Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote these words to his niece from the Tegel, a Nazi run prison. He knew very well what it was to pursue what is right for the betterment of others. I write this quote in every card that I give to newlyweds because it is a reminder that marriage is a commitment you make to your spouse, your friends, your community, and to God. Marriage is a commitment to walk alongside your spouse through sickness, through health, through poverty and riches, through fun and boredom, and it is a promise to drag them in the right direction when they are floundering, when they arent doing better, when they are slacking, when theyre falling behind. If you look at your spouse and ask, "Can I do better?" Your answer should only ever be "Yes, I can do better to love them. I can do better to support them. I can do better to kick them in the rear. I can do better to make them better. *I* can do better by them. That is the job. That is marriage. It's the commitment that holds up your emotions; because your emotions are a frail foundation to support the weight of commitment on its own.
"Call Her Daddy" host Alex Cooper & actress Sophia Bush: if a woman is questioning whether she can do better than her current husband, "the answer is always yes." "This idea that it's too late or you're too old, or who are you to want more, that's patriarchy. That is crazy."

Been seeing this a lot. The maths, people! The MATHS.
Part of the divide in opinions on AI capabilities is that it's only made modest progress on wordcel-type tasks and is still very mid. vs. having gotten much better at shape-rotator tasks. So if you're only using it for wordcel tasks, it's easier to say "what's the hype about?"

Rabies kills ~59,000 people a year globally. At that rate, the United States should lose 2,500 people a year to rabies. But the real number is fewer than 10, partly because we've spent 30 years dropping fish-flavored ravioli out of helicopters over the Appalachians. Each one contains a rabies vaccine inside a fishmeal-coated block. Raccoons, foxes, coyotes and skunks find them by smell, bite through, and enjoy the treat. Four to six weeks later, they carry rabies antibodies. Enough of them in one area and the virus runs out of animals to move through. USDA Wildlife Services has been doing this this line since 1995. It runs roughly from Maine down through Alabama, and its job is to stop raccoon-variant rabies from crossing into the central US, where it has never established. A single course of post-exposure shots runs into the thousands of dollars, and every rabid raccoon in a suburb produces a cluster of them: the kid who got scratched, the dog that tangled with it, etc. US rabies prevention costs between $245 and $510 million a year and avoids over a billion in medical spending. Long Island is probably our best case study for this program. A $2.6 million baiting program eliminated raccoon rabies from the zone, and paid for itself in eight years on avoided shots and testing alone. The biggest question I hear about this is: what happens if my dog finds one? And the answer: nothing bad. This vaccine has been safety-tested in over 60 species at varying doses with no adverse reactions observed, regardless of how much was given. About 250 million doses have been distributed worldwide since 1987 with no documented deaths in wildlife or domestic animals. The most severe adverse reaction observed was upset stomach.

We should remember our friends who stuck by us following 9/11.
Ukraine sent more than 6,000 troops to support the United States after 9/11 in Iraq and Afghanistan, and 18 paid the ultimate price. 🕯️💔

Anyone who isn’t worried about AI at all isn’t thinking for themselves. Is it here to stay? Yes. Should we try to stop it? No. Should we be concerned about the vast downsides it has? Yes. Should leaders be working to mitigate those concerns as fast as possible? Yes.

This is Rick Rescorla. He died 25 years ago today, when the South Tower of the World Trade Centre collapsed following a terrorist attack. His actions that day saved thousands of lives and today schoolchildren in Cornwall will take part in a parade in his honour.

Been really enjoying the short form videos that @GottmanInst has been producing. Also, sometimes I feel like John and Julie are on a crusade to course-correct overly online therapy zeal and tell people how to do it right. facebook.com/share/v/1FGjeSC…

people say "i hate capitalism" when the status quo sucks it would help to be more specific. say "i hate that labor is taxed at a rate far exceeding that of land or investments, which i call capital interest." it's not just business

Big thinkers use macros.
Thomas Aquinas' handwriting. I was told by my medieval Latin and paleography professor at Notre Dame that only a handful of nerds can get through it. (He didn't say nerds.) It's heavily abbreviated (as nearly all texts were in his day), so you have to know Latin, know the many abbreviations, and then know his ideosyncracies. Good luck.

This is a good thread and worth the read. Having enjoyed both emotionally vulnerable male friendships and more "task oriented" friendship, I can say there's room in one life for both, and that different seasons may see either wax or wane.
I wrote about male friendships. There's a common strain of cultural criticism—associated with the push for what is sometimes called the “new masculinity”—that argues that men need to be more emotionally vulnerable with their friends. For many reasons, I think this is nonsense. 1/

I want every @Spotify engineer and product manager to try using their app on a rural hospital's wifi. And then I want an explanation for why the app can't start up and play the songs I've already downloaded without sitting frozen in various loading states.

I realize that I'm whining that my magic pocket computer won't make the pretty song RIGHT NOW. But! In this case I know that there is no fundamental technical reason *why* it has to be that way.

One of the most moving things I’ve ever read was the letter from a former Confederate to a dying former President Grant
Ulysses S. Grant was born on April 27, 1822. He served as the 18th President of the United States of America from March 4, 1869 to March 4, 1877. Today would have been his 204th birthday. Happy Birthday, President Grant! ---- #potus #whitehouse #ovaloffice #president

I share this post in earnest and (what may prove a naive) hope that a few people caught in the situation I’m about to describe will hear instead of rushing to the usual tropes, criticisms and caricatures. For what it’s worth, I offer this in good faith. Between 2016 and 2022, I faced a test of the genuineness of my faith so large and consequential, I’m almost at a loss to think of the right adjectives to describe it. It might not have been so big to someone else but it involved so much of my Christian identity, it was all but existential. Well more than that. It was a dying. It is this test that helps me understand why people who seem deeply devoted to the Lord Jesus and hold the scriptures in highest esteem also hold to a system, institution or leader no matter what they do and defend a side or individual to a degree that is baffling. I can tell you why because I had to face every bit of it. Identity, community, camaraderie, what we’ve known and loved, what part of it we still love, the people we loved, the people we still love, reputation, what people will think, how you will be judged and condemned and thrown over to the other side who doesn’t want you either. And to whom you also do not align and would not belong. Friendships. How you will be misunderstood and misrepresented. How adrift and alone you will feel. How disliked. And then there’s this and it would be a mistake to minimize it: your JOB. Your source of income. Your vocation. This is the part of the crisis I most write these words to convey because I think they are most in play for many right now, whether in media, ministry or politics. Let me try to put this in the words that were constantly resonant in my spirit in those years. And to this day. Though you have no other place to go, Beth, and no place to fit and it not only MAY have financial repercussions but WILL have financial repercussions to the ministry and to your family and will also make them targets and none of it will ever look the same or be the same, will you choose what you believe to be right and put everything else in your vocational life at risk? This is what is at risk for many people whose professional reputations and positions are tied up with leaders, institutions and political parties. Mine was, too. The cost is enormous and the options are often untenable. And so there we are. Having to cast ourselves on the mercy of God. Not for a third way. But as THE ONLY WAY. The only truth. The only life. I’ve made multiple errors in judgment. Jumped too quickly to condemn. Spoken wrongly. Remained silent wrongly and confusingly. I never get it completely together. But what I will tell you is that I believe we are meant first and foremost to call out our own house, our own side, and our own identity group for its mind-boggling hypocrisy. These were my people. Evangelicals. Conservatives. Claim what you will but I know who I am: I am pro life from conception to casket. I am pro small government. I am pro godliness and the pursuit of a holy life. I am pro marriage and family and pro-those God calls to remain single and sanctified and I’m deeply thankful for them. I am pro traditional sexual ethics. I am pro love of God and love of neighbor and the dignity of every person as an image bearer of Christ. I am pro love all. I am pro church. I believe in the community of the saints. I am pro Bible study to the death and believe the aim of all discipleship is to know and love and follow and emulate Jesus Christ. I am pro gospel. Dear God in heaven, I am pro gospel. I believe there is one name by whom we must be saved. Jesus. What I am not is pro Trump. Wasn’t pro Clinton. Wasn’t pro Biden. But those were not the candidates many in the world that I loved so much were cheering on. I accept that Donald Trump is my president. I pray for him on a regular basis. I’m a law abiding citizen and pay my taxes. But I believe Trump fosters something in people that makes them lose their way.
