Re: The new YouTube view count update.
I studied the data across a dozen different channels.
Seeing as high as 100% plus increases, average is lower.
Here's a crazy example from a 1m+ channel. This video would have previously been measured as 986k views instead of 2.2 million.
I usually support most youtube updates but I cannot stand the new view counts and for the life of me don't know who it helps.
Separating youtube users into viewers, creators, advertisers this is WILDLY misleading for all 3 of them.
Youtube only pays on "engaged views" they literally know themselves it means nothing.
Arrows absolutely WORK and don't listen to anyone that tells you otherwise.
It's a bit more nuanced then just adding a red arrow, it's about directing the viewers attention in a glance. When you understand this you can use other means to direct attention. My favorite examples are from @MooreOverVO who uses a character's eye line to look at the important subject or a his bird avatar's wing to point where he wants the viewer to look.
Are they always necessary? Absolutely not. Can they be a useful asset when used correctly? Undeniably.
@Avoristrib is on the right track though and sharing something that has clearly worked with proven results.
Way to many people in that thread were saying things like red arrows indicate low quality/bad videos, with nothing to actually back it up.
I can pull up many examples from some of the largest creators on the platform that produce some of the highest quality content using arrows in their thumbs.
several seasoned youtubers critiqued my advice of using red arrows in videos... heres the TRUTH...
these youtubers have established audiences. people who will click on their videos even if their thumbnails suck.
I started this channel, BRAND NEW and this is what changed the game for me and got me monetized
If you wanna listen to people with established audiences for beginner advice go for it, but data is data, facts are facts.
red arrows increase CTR. clear as day proven facts.
