Building Trust, Preventing Extremism, Securing Communities! 🇬🇭🤝🇪🇸 From Wa to Damongo, and now Bolgatanga! KAIPTC, in partnership with the National Peace Council and with support from the Government of Spain, has brought together 52 security and community stakeholders for the third in a series of regional workshops to strengthen trust, promote cooperation and build community resilience against violent extremism. “Prevention begins with trust!” This was the central message of KAIPTC Commandant, Air Vice Marshal David Anetey Akrong, who called for stronger community-security partnerships, dialogue and shared responsibility. Representing the Spanish Ambassador, Mr Daniel Roelas reinforced the importance of prevention, reaffirming that Ghana's security interests are Spain's interests, and vice versa, as both countries work towards safer, more resilient communities. #KAIPTC #SpainGhanaPartnership #NationalPeaceCouncil #PreventingViolentExtremism #CommunityResilienc

The 2026 Gender Advisers Course has taken off with participants from across Africa gaining knowledge in gender mainstreaming, inclusive leadership, and gender-responsive peace and security. The programme is being spearheaded by KAIPTC, through its Women, Youth, Peace and Security Institute (WYPSI), in collaboration with the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA) of Sweden, Germany, the European Union and the Danish Government through the ECOWAS Peace, Security and Governance Project, with support from the Norwegian Government. The training is expected to equip participants with practical skills and tools to strengthen gender mainstreaming in their respective organisations. The impact will be felt far beyond this room, as the Advisers return home to shape more inclusive policies, ensure the needs and experiences of women, men, girls and boys are reflected in peace and security, and build a peace that truly leaves no one behind. Stronger gender leadership today means more inclusive peace and sustainable security for all.

We are happy to report that the 2026 Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) course has concluded with practical exercises designed to translate theoretical knowledge into essential, real-world skills. Participants applied their learning through terrain navigation using navigation devices, negotiation scenarios, and first-aid exercises, including wound care and the transportation of injured persons. The practical component strengthened participants’ ability to apply these skills in challenging and potentially high-risk environments, reinforcing their preparedness to make informed decisions, respond effectively to emergencies, and manage operational challenges. Participants welcomed the hands-on sessions, highlighting the value of practical training in building confidence, competence and operational readiness. #KAIPTC #HEAT2026 #CapacityBuilding #PracticalTraining #OperationalReadiness #Impact

KAIPTC has hosted Counsellor Aloisia Wörgetter, Austria’s Deputy Director for Africa and Representative to the EU Sahel Special Envoy process, on a courtesy call on the Commandant, Air Vice Marshal David Anetey Akrong. Counsellor Wörgetter, who was in Accra for the EU Sahel consultations, was led by the Austrian Ambassador to seek KAIPTC’s African perspective on the security situation in the Sahel. She was briefed by the Commandant, together with the Director of Research, Dr Emma Birikorang, and the Deputy Director of Training, Wing Commander Christian Eshun, on the Centre’s work in peacekeeping and human rights. Discussions focused on the implications of declining support for African peace operations and the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2719 (2023), which provides a framework for financing African Union-led peace support operations. The engagement comes at a significant time as Austria prepares to serve as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term. KAIPTC expressed its readiness to review Austria’s new Africa Strategy and contribute its African perspectives and expertise to discussions on peace and security. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation between KAIPTC and Austria in support of peace and stability in the Sahel and across Africa. #KAIPTC #Austria #Sahel #PeaceAndSecurity #UNSC #Resolution2719 #AfricanPeace #Ghana #Diplomacy #Peacekeeping #EU #WestAfrica

As global leaders examine the future of UN peace operations, KAIPTC brought critical African perspectives to high-level discussions in New York. A delegation comprising the Commandant, Air Vice Marshal David Anetey Akrong, Dr. Emma Birikorang (Director of Research), and Dr. Lawrence Bediako (Chief Finance Officer) engaged at the Challenges Annual Forum 2026 (CAF26), the International Peace Institute, and UN Headquarters, contributing training, financial, and African troop-contributing country perspectives to deliberations on the UN Secretary-General's Peace Operations Review. Throughout their engagements, the delegation stressed that UN Blue Helmets are neither designed nor equipped for kinetic counter-terrorism, underscoring the importance of maintaining a clear division of labour between regional peace enforcement coalitions and UN peacekeeping missions to safeguard impartiality and force protection. They also cautioned against premature drawdowns driven by liquidity shortfalls, advocating for mutual commitment compacts tied to real-world security benchmarks to ensure that vital protection gains are not lost overnight. At the heart of these discussions was a clear message: the future of peace operations depends on investing in people. By grounding pre-deployment training in rigorous field research, KAIPTC continues to prepare military, police, and civilian leaders to navigate complex security environments, resource constraints, and dynamic political transitions with resilience and integrity. #caf26newyork #PeaceOperations #UNPeacekeeping #ResearchForPeace
