When a talented athlete struggles, it is rarely due to a lack of motivation or not enough reps. “Try harder” isn’t helpful.
They’re struggling because fear, pressure, overthinking, and the need to prove themselves are interfering with performance. Their results have started carrying too much weight.
That’s why we built The Game Within.
It’s the mental performance system we’ve used and proven with professional athletes, major college programs, and teenagers across a variety of sports.
Now we’re making it available to anyone.
The Game Within helps athletes understand what’s getting in the way, build a process they can trust, and compete with more freedom.
Fear → Purpose → Drift → Competitive Joy

Grateful to get to do this work, investing in leaders and teams.
Want to win, don’t NEED to win.
Care deeply, commit fully, compete freely.
Competitive Joy.
NLCS MVP Jake Bauers shares how letting go of results helped him find a different level of freedom as a competitor.
"I think what changed for me this year was I stopped caring about results. I started caring about competing. I started caring about being in the moment and getting out of my own way."
Sometimes, the biggest obstacle to performing at your best isn't a lack of preparation or ability.
It's the pressure you place on yourself to produce a particular outcome.
You become so concerned with what you want to happen that you lose touch with what the moment actually requires.
Any performer can unlock a new level when they learn how to be fully invested in the competition without becoming imprisoned by the outcome.

Always good to get time with @jenkstrojans coaches and leaders, talking about leadership and communication. Love how intentional they are about getting better.
Your environment.
Your phone.
Your failures.
Other people's opinions.
Your intentions.
Something is always training you.
The only question is whether you chose it.

When you compete to prove something about yourself, every performance gets heavier.

Often the loudest noise you need to block out isn’t from other people (critics, competitors, etc). It’s the voice of your insecurities and fears.
Win the battle against that noise and you become unstoppable.
Make your mindset your advantage.
Worry is wasted energy.
You can only compete in the now.
Good life lesson from Pat Murphy about how worrying is a "waste of time."

If you want to lead, do what it takes.
If you want to get healthy, do what it takes.
If you want to get better, do what it takes.
The more you justify your excuses, the more your “standard” becomes the exception.
If the standard is optional, it's not the standard.
Do the work.

You’re not where you want to be...
You don’t know how to do it...
You didn’t make it to your goal...
...yet.
Today isn’t the finish line.
Keep going. Keep showing up. Keep getting better.
Your culture isn’t what you hope it is or say it is, it’s the actions you put into practice each day.
Create it on purpose.
Fear makes you protect or promote yourself.
Protect: play not to lose, avoid the moment, try not to fail.
Promote: try to be seen, get credit, prove you belong.
Both limit you.
High performers know they have nothing to prove, nothing to lose, nothing to hide.

In our newsletter last week, asked coaches to share their principles of coaching.
Almost every answer was about people, humility, and service.
We also shared the 10 principles that guide how we think about coach/leading. 🧵
