Across our projects @GoogleDeepMind, we are witnessing a genuine phase transition in the pace of scientific discovery. You will see a glimpse of this in our releases in the next few weeks.

wildwood is a true marvel of human artistry, craftsmanship, and storytelling. i honestly found it even better than You Can See Everything (gasp!).
[spoilers if you read on]
an interesting trend in both wildwood and hoppers is how they handle death. they’re both movies for young people that treat death as inevitable and natural, and both expose the audience to a surprising amount of it. this feels quite different from the cleaner moral universes of much of modern disney and pixar.
both movies also have strong themes of non-intervention. of course, this is environmentally motivated, but there’s a broader Buddhist / Taoist morality running through both films: the world has a natural balance, and our attempts to impose our own ideas of goodness upon it can be destructive.
this feels quite different from the more Christian-inflected morality of overcoming evil. in these films, nature isn’t inherently good or evil, and trying to eliminate everything we perceive as bad can itself be the source of harm.
i wonder if this reflects a broader generational shift toward stories where it’s increasingly difficult to know what’s “right” or “wrong”, and where good intentions aren’t enough to make an action good.
both films feel like spiritual siblings to princess mononoke, questioning the hubris of humans who believe they can impose their will on the natural world.
wildwood is also visually spectacular and a complete and utter artistic achievement. it is always so rewarding to see fresh new takes on what a movie can be and how stories can be told.
huge fan, go see it!
Nutsssss
So I kept pushing Opus 5.5 to see how far I could go with my Earth simulator and… wow!
Here I focused a looot on photorealistic landscapes, a season system, weather, and time of day. So now we can simulate any part of the world at any time, in any weather and in any season
If the place in the video looks familiar, it's Chamonix in the French Alps in December (so veeery snowy)
Not perfect yet but we're getting there!
Also not sure what the next steps should be?
It's absolutely wild to be able to fly around the world like that sooo easily. It's such a very satisfying feeling and also it gives ideas of places to visit

I don’t know what’s more upsetting, watching antisemitism increase or watching normal people stay silent.

This is one of the most insane and stunning use cases I've ever seen someone built with Opus 5.5.
Seriously, AI enables so much creativity, it opens worlds. I love it!

BlueChip. Built in America.
America made the first electronic computer to win a war.
Now we depend on our greatest adversaries to build the computers that run our economy and defend our nation.
Today, we bring it home.
Wowwwww

Houdini’s in-laws thought he worshipped the devil
Sacha Baron Cohen says Marvel worried about casting a Jewish actor as the devil Mephisto because it could be perceived as antisemitic.
“It was a wonderful meeting when I was offered it. It was primarily, I think, an almost entirely Black producing and directing team. And they said, ‘We want to offer you Mephisto, but we are aware of the negative association of Jews historically with the devil, and we want to make sure that you’re not insulted by us offering this.’ It was such an amazingly considerate, empathetic thing to say. And I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m good.’
I think for the Jews out there, sometimes we don’t feel seen. We don’t feel like people can empathize with us, that we are suffering too. And so to have this entirely Black producing and directing team be so empathetic was a moment of being seen. It was an amazing experience.”

Btw I did this interview on only one hour of sleep 😅
Sophont CEO @iScienceLuvr explains the cognitive dissonance of frontier AI labs promising cancer breakthroughs a decade away when AI could help patients right now:
"Anthropic is releasing various blog posts and interesting projects, but it’s still very limited in scope. I think it’s a very promising direction. The challenge is that the timelines are gonna be very long."
"If we’re telling people AI can save lives and cure cancer, but people are waiting 10 years, it’s very hard for people to understand. There are interesting things that can actually have impact right now."
"The labs are all promising they’re gonna have all this impact, but it’s gonna take a while. There’s a little bit of cognitive dissonance going on that people are now starting to catch on to."

I can't unfortunately. Cybersecurity matters are too sensitive for me to share in detail. Sorry for vague posting, I just had to say something. Situation on the ground is real.
