The DNC Council on the Environment and Climate Crisis firmly opposes the so-called “Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act” (BAAJA). Action is urgent: the Senate votes November 9 on whether to begin debate on this bill — and we can stop it right there.
This wolf-in-sheep’s-clothing bill actually rolls back the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and NEPA. AND it fast-tracks gas pipelines, mining, and data centers, and restricts Tribal sovereignty over sacred lands and clean water.
Yes, permitting reform is needed. But this is not it.
Act Now: Call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and tell your Senators to oppose BAAJA.

Democrats might want to remember that the oil and gas industry spent $182 million trying to defeat their candidates this election. open.substack.com/pub/heated…
Thanks to Louisiana PSC Commissioner @davantelewis for the shoutout in Politico!
Data centers are driving a surge in power demand and are spiking energy prices - and the people who decide who pays for it are on the ballot today. In Georgia and Arizona, that’s Shelia Edwards and @PeterHubbardGA for the Georgia PSC, and Clara Pratte [@ClaraforAZ ] and Jonathon Hill for the Arizona Corporation Commission. Vote all the way down the ballot.
Thanks to DNC Chair Ken Martin [@kenmartin73] for showing up, speaking out, and supporting these candidates! 👇 politico.com/news/2026/10/31…

Detroit & Downriver, Id be honored to serve as your next state senator to lower the cost of living, invest in our neighborhoods and to protect our rights as we make our state government more ethical and effective. Lets get to work!
I had the distinct honor of introducing Vice President @KamalaHarris at our fundraiser for Democratic Public Utility Commission candidates in Georgia and Arizona.
The Vice President has been a climate champion from her time as CA AG, to the Senate, to the Vice Presidency. It meant the world to have her support for four incredible candidates — Peter Hubbard, Shelia Edwards, Clara Pratte, and Jonathon Hill — who are fighting to flip Public Utility Commission seats in Georgia and Arizona. These races decide who controls our energy future. @PeterHubbardGA
Please consider supporting these great candidates: demclimate.org/climate26
Last night, Vice President @KamalaHarris joined @LeadLocally and @DNCClimate for a virtual fundraiser supporting the election of climate utility leaders in Georgia and Arizona.

“You cannot unbuild a data center.”
15 minutes from where I live is the planned site of the University of Michigan / Los Alamos hyperscale data center.
U-M’s own FAQ says this facility will use “less than 1/10th the energy” of commercial data centers. That’s misleading at best - really, I want to call it out as bs -and is just one of many such statements from this public university which should be standing up for truth and transparency.
Because here's the truth: “Hyperscale” data centers start around 40 megawatts. This one is planned at 100+ which is enough power for a city of 80,000 homes.
Cost? $1.25 billion, $100 million of it from Michigan taxpayers and more from local taxpayers in the form of zero local property taxes to pay for first responder services, water infrastructure, roads damaged by construction and on and on.
Regent Paul Brown has called for a pause. U-M should listen to the people who live here and take their unwanted data center where it's wanted, if anywhere.
I was honored to stand with U-M Regent Paul Brown, organizer Leah Mills-Chapman, Tad Wysor of the Huron Valley Area Labor Federation, and Township Supervisor Brenda Stumbo, who has led this fight from the start.
