Not one person in is pro minimum wage will answer this question. Nobody on the left. Nobody in the Greenโ€™s. Nobody in the Labour Party. Once they make the argument, then the argument is dead because it arbitrary. These people are thick ideologues. Abolish the government. They all have to go.
Hi Darren, I have a really easy questions for you. Why not make the minimum wage ยฃ20, or ยฃ30. Please can you give your economic argument why it is ยฃ15 and not higher.

The Green Party would make the minimum wage ยฃ15 an hour - no matter your age. Join.greenparty.org.uk

Abolish the government.
People are cutting back on absolutely everything. They're buying supermarket own brands, driving less, cancelling subscriptions, staying in instead of going out and putting off purchases until they can justify the expense. They're making sacrifices that would have seemed ridiculous a few years ago just to keep their heads above water. But when wages disappear into rent, council tax, energy bills, food and transport, even the strictest budget can only do so much. You shouldn't have to give up every little thing that makes life enjoyable just to afford the essentials. If working full-time still means you can't afford to live comfortably, maybe the problem isn't your spending habits. Maybe the system is broken.

And they wonder why we call them communists. Abolish the government.
New minimum wage is over ยฃ27k per year. The higher rate of income tax is ยฃ50k per year. The wage gap between skilled and unskilled labour gets smaller by the year. Whats the point in training for anything anymore?

Your party is bankrolled by unions which you trade for anti-business legislation. You're too weak to decline the bargain and too stupid to understand the concequences. We need to abolish the government and fundamentally unintelligent morons like you will discover the market, where you will earn considerably lower than your MP salary.
Who is bankrolling Nigel Farage's party? What interests are they seeking to advance? Are they acting in Britain's best interests? Reform UK are engulfed in sleaze and scandal. Labour will protect our democracy from foreign influence. independent.co.uk/news/uk/poโ€ฆ

Richard, you are remarkably stupid. The country is worse off for people like you in power as you do not understand the most basics of economics. We should abolish government, you all have to go and you should be one of the first.
I've just got down to Parliament to present my petition in Parliament tonight for a Windfall Tax on the banks at this week's Budget. Let's tax them and bail out ordinary people for once! There's still time to sign the petition at the link below! c.org/b2fyXDswpJ

The real cost to business is ยฃ16.95 when you include NI, statutory holiday pay and minimum employer pension contributions. This is unfathomably stupid. There are many viable businesses that are unviable because of this. My first job was ยฃ2.30 an hour and there were no employment rights, minimum wage or holiday pay. The job was a privilege and created the right incentives to work hard. Economics is about what works, not what sounds good. The incentives here are flipped and a job is now being treated like an entitlement. So let's talk about the two big consequences for businesses already operating at the margin: 1. Wage compression - less jobs for younger people as it is less risky to employ older, more mature people for base wage roles. 2. Businesses that are currently viable or on the margin, will become unviable. We are ruled my morons.
๐Ÿšจ NEW: John Healey will increase the minimum wage for over 21s from ยฃ12.71 to around ยฃ13.20

You left them Nigel. Compromised by Tory nonsense, people wanted something anti-establishment. Itโ€™s on you, not them.

It is time.
To be fair, any Briton who hasn't yet entered their abolish-the-government arc probably works for the BBC ๐Ÿค”

Statists attack libertarians principles regarding rent, judging libertarian ideas against a market where money supply is artificially inflated and house production is artificially limited.
Libertarians believe every transaction is voluntary, including paying a landlord half your income because the alternative is sleeping in your fucking car.

โ€œPrices are determined by supply and demand.โ€ Cool story. Now explain what determines supply. One thing that socialists fail to understand is that for supply to exist, someone has to commit capital, take on risk and they expect a sufficient return. That return is calculated AFTER tax my guy, just look at any P&L. The mistake that Labour keeps making is that it thinks that incentives donโ€™t matter - that entrepreneurs can take the risk and the government can take the rewards. You raise taxes, they raise prices. If they canโ€™t raise prices they donโ€™t just say cool, no worries, theyโ€™ll cut investment, jobs, hold back wage increases - any combination of the three to drive profit. Whichever way you put it, itโ€™s harmful. Some bedtime reading on windfall taxes for you: news.stv.tv/north/oil-firm-aโ€ฆ
Nope, thatโ€™s not how taxes and price works. The price is determined by demand and supply. Companies charge the highest price they can given demand. A tax levied on *profits* does not affect a companyโ€™s cost ie supply. Taxes on *windfall* profits (like oil and gas) are the most efficient kind of tax there is.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Corporate profit taxes do not directly shift marginal costs but empirical studies show partial pass-through into higher consumer prices. Windfall taxes on oil and gas have deterred investment and production in practice despite theoretical efficiency on rents. dadun.unav.edu/server/api/corโ€ฆ ecb.europa.eu/pub/pdf/scpwpsโ€ฆ taxfoundation.org/blog/big-oil-pโ€ฆ scottishfinancialreview.com/2025/09/03/winโ€ฆ

This is your children's debt and therefore their future. If you continue to consent to this, you are consenting to a shit future for them and thus you are a fucking coward.
The TaxPayersโ€™ Alliance revealed this week that public sector debt has breached ยฃ3 trillion. But that is only part of the story. What the Government is not acknowledging is the vast mountain of additional liabilities it has accumulated, obligations that will ultimately have to be paid. The real national debt is far worse, standing at ยฃ11.7 trillion.

Another dumb dumb with MP after his name. When you tax a business they raise their prices, so a tax on business is a tax on the consumer. This is school level economics. We are ruled by useless morons.
We taxed oil & gas giants' profits to make families and businesses better off. Reform and the Conservatives would cut taxes for oil & gas giants.

A country which forces its debts onto its kids is a failed country. If we don't stop this debt rot, we are cowards. Abolish the government.
