What Does Addictive-Like Eating mean?
It describes a pattern in which urges around certain foods become difficult to control. Even when eating them is causing you harm.
These behaviours, particularly regarding ultra-processed foods, are receiving increasing research and clinical attention.
So, how can they be identified?
How Does CRAVED compare with other food addiction assessment tools?
In the new study, researchers compared CRAVED with the Yale Food Addiction Scale, an established 35-question measure developed primarily for research.
CRAVED, however, was designed to make initial screening:
- Quicker
- Simpler
- Easier to complete
- More practical
CRAVED and YFAS serve different purposes but CRAVED makes taking that first step much easier.

We're excited to welcome Steve Bennett as the new Chief Executive of Public Health Collaboration, officially joining us on 6th November.
Steve has been a long-standing supporter of PHC, serving as both a patron and benefactor.
As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we're looking forward to beginning an exciting new chapter together, building on our mission to help prevent more people from developing chronic diseases through better metabolic health.
Steve has exciting new plans for the charity, which we'll be sharing over the coming weeks. The first is our name: Public Health Collaboration will become Preventive Health Collaboration.
Our message and focus will centre around a clear commitment:
“Most diseases of modern life are preventable; many can be reversed. We build the evidence, teach it widely and campaign for policies that put prevention first.”
We'll still be PHC! Our new name reflects our commitment to preventing and reversing chronic disease through better metabolic health, helping more people access the knowledge and practical support they need to make lasting changes.
As we begin this new chapter, you'll gradually see our new identity reflected across our website, social media channels and other communications over the coming months.
Please join us in welcoming Steve to his new role!
Prevention starts with the choices we make every day.
With chronic health conditions becoming increasingly common, understanding how nutrition and lifestyle can help prevent, manage and even reverse certain conditions has never been more important.
